As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will join our Guelph or Oakville, Ontario office (hybrid) as part of our Alternative Delivery team working within the Montrose Project Management Office.
The successful applicant will be a key contributor to Montrose growing portfolio of environmental services for large infrastructure projects through both project business development and project execution. In this dynamic role, the Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist will be collaborating with internal and external subject experts to successfully meet the growing needs for environmental compliance on impactful projects across the province:
Manage environmental requirements on infrastructure projects across Ontario
Provide leadership and input on environmental assessment, planning, design, and construction projects
Collaborate with private and public sector clients, approval agencies, sub-consultants, and subcontractors.
Engaging and liaising with stakeholders, including conservation authorities, municipal, provincial and federal governments and the public
Coordinate with internal project team across disciplines, including engineers, hydrogeologists, and ecologists
Engage with and effectively manage other environmental firms and subcontractors including environmental drilling companies
Apply strong budget and scope management skills to manage project
Develop strong client relationships within the infrastructure sector in Ontario and across Canada
Lead and prepare competitive bids and cost estimates for multi-disciplinary projects
Collaborate closely with the Montrose Project Management Office to manage projects effectively and manage project risks.
What We Are Looking For
10+ years of construction, planning or experience in a consulting or directly related role managing environmental compliance
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental planning, urban planning, geography, environmental science, or a related field
Experience with groundwater and surface water management, sustainability, noise and vibration, air quality and species at risk permitting process
Ability to manage and lead a variety of projects in various sectors (e.g., urban, transportation, infrastructure, oil and gas, wind and hydropower).
Experience working with transportation and municipal infrastructure planning and construction projects
Experience engaging with stakeholders including First Nations, municipal governments, conservation authorities and the private sector
Strong project management skills, including developing and monitoring of budgets, approved project scope and schedule, organizational skills, staff supervision and team communications.
Knowledge and working experience with regulatory requirements such Municipal Class EA process and the Canadian Impact Assessment Act
Experience leading or supporting large proposals or bids
Valid G class driver’s license is required.
The following would be considered an asset:
Knowledge or technical working experience with Regulation 153/04 and 406/19
Experience working directly for a construction firm or consortium on P3 projects
Experience working with Metrolinx and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO)
Familiarity or working knowledge of ISO 140001
