Job Description

Overview:

The Environmental and Chemistry Supervisor is responsible for supervising and providing technical direction for multi-skilled technicians (Chemical, and Environmental) at a Solid Fuel Fired Plant to meet the specific energy generation requirements of the Vistra System in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally sound manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all plant chemical and environmental equipment in optimum condition to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment and efficient Regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise, schedule, and assign Chemical and Environmental Technicians to ensure that work group objectives are accomplished.
  •  Team with others in plant, in Fossil Generation, in other Functional Areas of Vistra, and Industry to ensure the maintenance of productive relationships where the incumbent interfaces as client or service provider.
  • Provide troubleshooting, analysis, and resolution of Unit, Chemical and Environmental anomalies to ensure acceptable plant operation.
  • Assist in the development and direct implementation of the Technical Support Group’s annual budget to ensure meeting stated plant goals and objectives.
  • Perform employee performance appraisals and development to ensure a highly skilled technician work force.
  • Provide 24 hour a day on-call coverage to ensure orderly conduct of business.
  • Interface with other plant departments, other Vistra plants, corporate environmental staff, regulatory agencies, and contractors to support and enhance compliance in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
  • Evaluate performance of and recommend upgrades to new and existing controls, chemical and environmental systems in the plant to provide improvements and upgrades that enhance plant performance.
  • Team with peers, supervisors, subordinates, representatives of other functional areas of Vistra to establish, modify, and coordinate Corporate, Business Unit, and Function Level Policies and Procedures through Standing Committee and/or Ad Hoc Task Team assignments.
  • Evaluate performance of and recommend upgrades to new and existing controls, chemical and environmental systems in the plant to provide improvements and upgrades that enhance plant performance.

Requirements:

  • Six (6) years related work experience.
  • Experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others.
  • Experience and demonstrated computer skills including the ability to use various applications such as Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), work management system (Maximo), Plant Information (PI) programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a leadership capacity.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in either Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Six (6) years of directly related station experience in boiler/steam chemistry processes, and FGD Chemistry process; water treatment processes and equipment ( clarifiers, multi-media and GAC filtration, reverse osmosis, demineralizers, and condensate polishers), lab bench top and in-line instrumentation and analysis, wastewater treatment and analysis; drinking water, coal sampling and sampling systems; and environmental testing, sampling, and analysis.
  • Experience with FGD systems, equipment and processes
  • Financial knowledge and skills including ability to analyze data.
  • Strong computer skills such as PI system for trending and including ability to use various applications.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
