The Environment Specialist applies their knowledge, expertise, and experience to ensure compliance and support ENMAX operations by assisting with project management, permitting, performance reporting and facilitating the effective execution of ENMAX’s environmental management system. Furthermore, the Environment Specialist contributes to the development and attainment of Environmental & Social Governance and Sustainability objectives by delivering reliable performance data and evaluating the impacts of policy and practice changes across the organization.
Major responsibilities:
Support Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems as required to maintain compliance, system availability, software maintenance, upgrades, and reporting.
Support Greenhouse gas calculations and reporting.
Support release response, reporting and remediation activities.
Provide on-site technical and regulatory support, including emissions management to ENMAX business units.
Develop, implement, and improve Environment Procedures, Quality Assurance Plans, work instructions and training programs.
Develop, implement and maintain the ENMAX Environmental Management System by working with Business Unit Partners to identify environmental risk (aspects) and ensure identified risks are controlled through the development of environmental standards, management & work practices, and operational procedures.
Support the development of Environment objectives across all ENMAX business units, as well as provide support to business units in achieving those objectives.
Support learning analysis teams as a subject matter expert to identify causal factors and corrective actions relating to significant environmental incidents, in addition to, sign-off on proposed mitigations for compliance matters.
Conduct environmental audits and inspections across all business units to monitor regulatory compliance, conformance to ENMAX Policies and Procedures and identify opportunities for improvement to support compliance assurance.
Manage environmental projects including direct oversight of employees and contractors when relation to environmental management and compliance matters.
Prepare and submit regulatory reports and applications across all ENMAX business units. Including final sign-off authority on those submissions.
Education required:
Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in Environmental, Biological, Ecological, or Natural Sciences.
Qualifications and experience:
Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and monitoring systems, including the Alberta CEMS Code, greenhouse gas reporting, water quality, waste management, release reporting, contaminated site management, and remediation.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong knowledge of environmental regulatory and industry practices.
Effective presentation and communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to diverse audiences.
Proactive, solution-focused mindset with the ability to drive environmental performance initiatives.

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
