The Enterprise Resilience Office (ERO) is responsible for developing, governing, and advancing State Street’s global resilience strategy. ERO ensures the organization can design, maintain, and continuously mature risk‑appropriate continuity and recovery capabilities that safeguard the delivery of critical business services across all market environments.
The Managing Director, Enterprise Resilience Office (ERO), is the senior executive accountable for defining, executing, and continuously enhancing State Street’s enterprise‑wide Operational Resilience strategy. The role combines deep subject‑matter expertise with executive leadership of the ERO Shared Services function, ensuring the delivery of consistent, scalable, and best‑in‑class resilience capabilities across the firm.
The MD partners extensively with global business leaders, Technology, Corporate Functions, Risk, and Regulatory bodies to strengthen the firm’s ability to withstand, respond to, and recover from disruptive events. The position drives proactive maturity uplift across all pillars of resilience and ensures alignment with regulatory expectations, client needs, and business priorities.
In addition, the role serves as Business Manager for Business Controls—overseeing strategic priorities, communication flows, and operating rhythms across senior leadership; acting as a trusted advisor to the executive team; and leading firm‑wide, cross‑functional programs spanning governance, risk, regulatory matters, and operational transformation.
What you will be responsible for
Operational Resilience Leadership (Subject Matter Expert)
Serve as the firm’s principal SME on Operational Resilience frameworks, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and evolving best practices.
Lead the design, implementation, and continuous advancement of the enterprise‑wide Operational Resilience strategy, including governance models and operating methodologies.
Direct the identification and mapping of critical business services, underlying dependencies, and the development and monitoring of impact tolerances.
Drive severe‑but‑plausible scenario development, structured resilience testing, and comprehensive lessons‑learned programs.
Provide thought leadership on emerging threats, resilience risks, regulatory trends, and required control enhancements.
Represent State Street as the senior authority on resilience in regulatory engagements, audits, and external industry forums.
Leader – ERO Shared Services
Provide executive leadership for the ERO Shared Services function responsible for centralized enterprise resilience capabilities, including:
Business Continuity & Crisis Management support
Operational Resilience program enablement
Third‑party due diligence questionnaire support
Client engagement and response coordination
Resilience tooling, automation, and platform management
Additional leadership responsibilities include:
Establishing and enforcing performance standards, operating rhythms, and service‑level commitments.
Driving operational excellence, consistency, and continuous improvement across Shared Services.
Ensuring service delivery aligns with global ERO strategy, regulatory expectations, and business priorities.
Delivering high‑quality, efficient, and measurable outcomes that enhance operational effectiveness and stakeholder confidence.
Enterprise Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Partner with business units, Technology, Risk, and Corporate Functions to embed resilience into strategic planning, daily operations, and decision‑making.
Lead enterprise‑wide collaboration for major resilience initiatives, large‑scale testing exercises, regulatory submissions, and executive‑level reporting.
Provide senior committees and governance forums with clear, data‑driven insights, trends, and recommendations.
Serve as a trusted advisor to global, regional and country executives on resilience readiness, risk posture, and business impact considerations.
Build and sustain strong relationships across global business lines as required to drive alignment, collaboration, and cultural cohesion.
Business Management & First‑Line Risk Leadership
Prepare executive‑ready materials for senior leadership, Boards, regulators, and enterprise committees.
Influence senior leadership to strengthen risk mindset, accountability, and risk culture across the enterprise.
Coordinate with second and third lines of defense to ensure clear role delineation and strong alignment on risk identification, assessment, escalation, and training.
Continuously identify and implement best practices, policy improvements, and process efficiencies.
Optimize allocation of resources to drive productivity while maximizing business value and operational rigor.
What we value
Demonstrated experience in Crisis Management.
Professional certifications in continuity, operational resilience, or risk management are desirable.
Deep expertise in designing, implementing, and maturing Operational Resilience and Business Continuity lifecycle programs.
Proven ability to interpret and operationalize complex regulatory requirements.
Strong executive‑level communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging clients, regulators, Boards, and senior leadership.
Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and stakeholder‑management capabilities across global, matrixed organizations.
Ability to work autonomously, drive enterprise initiatives with minimal oversight, and deliver outcomes in fast‑paced environments.
Strong critical thinking, structured problem‑solving, and disciplined execution skills.
Ability to lead complex, multi‑location programs and transformation initiatives.
Demonstrated relationship‑building and influencing skills across diverse global teams.
Deep understanding of risk, controls, governance frameworks, and regulatory expectations.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
20+ years of overall professional experience.
10+ years leading and operating business continuity, operational resilience, and organizational resilience programs.
