Title:
Enterprise Hybrid DevOps Engineer
BELONG. CONNECT. GROW. with KBR.
Around here, we define the future. We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers. But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.
Position Overview
KBR is seeking a motivated and technically strong Enterprise Hybrid DevOps Engineer to help design, implement, and mature an enterprise‑wide DevOps capability supporting both on‑premises and cloud environments. This enterprise operates as a hybrid platform today and for the foreseeable future, and success depends on applying consistent engineering practices across all environments rather than prioritizing one over another.
The enterprise platform is built on Linux systems, containerized workloads, and Kubernetes orchestration. In this role, you will help advance DevOps practices that improve reliability, security, delivery speed, and cost awareness across the full enterprise footprint. Cloud and on‑premises platforms are treated as peer execution environments, sharing common automation, standards, and operational discipline.
This position offers hands‑on involvement across the lifecycle of mission‑critical systems that process and archive global remote sensing data, working closely with architects, engineers, and operations teams to continuously improve enterprise platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Hybrid DevOps Engineering
- Engineer and evolve DevOps practices that support both on‑premises and cloud environments, aligning standards for automation, reliability, security, and delivery.
- Build reusable enterprise patterns (modules, templates, pipelines, and runbooks) that enable consistent infrastructure and platform delivery across hybrid environments.
- Collaborate with solution architects and engineering teams to design and implement platform capabilities that meet mission, security, and operational requirements.
Infrastructure as Code and Automation
- Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and related tooling to provision and manage enterprise infrastructure consistently.
- Develop automation for provisioning, configuration, auditing, and lifecycle management using tools such as Ansible and scripting languages (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
- Reduce manual operations through automation and self‑service workflows that improve reliability and repeatability.
Linux, Containers, and Kubernetes Platforms
- Engineer and standardize enterprise capabilities for Linux‑based systems, container build and runtime practices, and Kubernetes‑based deployments.
- Improve container lifecycle practices including image standards, registry management, security integration, and deployment consistency.
- Contribute to Kubernetes operational excellence through automation, configuration standards, and cross‑environment troubleshooting.
CI/CD and Delivery Engineering
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab Runners or similar, supporting infrastructure, container, and Kubernetes delivery workflows.
- Establish pipeline patterns that enable repeatable build, test, and deployment processes with appropriate quality and security controls.
FinOps and Cost Discipline
- Apply FinOps principles to improve cost visibility, accountability, and optimization across both on‑premises and cloud environments.
- Implement automation and guardrails that promote efficient resource usage and sustainable enterprise operations.
Operations and Continuous Improvement
- Troubleshoot infrastructure and platform issues across Linux, containers, Kubernetes, and hybrid dependencies in a collaborative enterprise environment.
- Contribute to technical documentation, standards, and process improvements that enhance system reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in agile ceremonies and deliver incremental improvements through iterative development.
Required Skills and Experience
- Three years of continuous U.S. residency (required for government security credential).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 6 years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, cloud engineering, or enterprise infrastructure roles.
- Strong hands‑on experience with Linux systems in enterprise environments.
- Strong experience with containers (Docker/OCI) and Kubernetes in production settings.
- Proficiency with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
- Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI or comparable tooling.
- Demonstrated ability to apply FinOps practices through practical cost optimization and automation.
Certifications
- AWS Associate‑level certification (e.g., Solutions Architect, Developer, or DevOps Engineer – Associate).
- Terraform Associate certification (required).
Collaboration and Communication
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to work across infrastructure, security, and application teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document and explain technical designs clearly.
Preferred Skills
- AWS Professional or Specialty certifications.
- Experience building enterprise platform capabilities around Kubernetes (policy, guardrails, observability, or GitOps patterns).
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software engineering practices.
Special Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for government facility access.
- Experience and/or education in lieu of these qualifications may be considered.
Success in This Role
Success means the enterprise operates with a unified DevOps approach—shared automation, Infrastructure as Code, delivery pipelines, and cost discipline—across both on‑premises and cloud environments, enabling reliable, secure, and efficient delivery wherever workloads run.
*** Three years of continuous U.S. residency required ***
Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
