The Engineering Technologist III or Senior Engineering Technologist is responsible for providing data and controls to the System Operators for situational awareness of the Bulk Power System through alarming and analog readings. In addition, the data provided assists field technicians and System Operators in identifying where faults are located as well as troubleshooting and mitigation of issues on the Bulk Power System.
This is the third (or fourth if Senior) level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the Career level for the job hierarchy. The Engineering Technologist III or Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.
Remote communication setup and maintenance of Transmission assets over IP and serial connectivity
Development of baselines and I/O summaries for existing and new substations according to Duke Energy Florida (DEF) standards and configuration templates.
Create RTU configurations and Point Assignment Sheet (PAS) with CONITEL protocol to support Analog communication system per DEF configuration and templates.
Creates RTU configurations and Point Assignments List and DNP mapping as per DEF Communication architecture standards for IP connectivity and networks.
Setup, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of systems.
Testing of equipment to ensure functionality with DEF system.
Developing solutions and mitigation plans during testing of new equipment and existing equipment installed on the DEF system.
Providing the appropriate information necessary to complete capital projects on time and accurate.
Assist in data retrieval for remotely connected devices.
Interface with Transmission Compliance Coordination to ensure Florida P&C Engineering documentation is accurate and implemented correctly.
Responsible for oversight on NERC-CIP v5 and IT 503, etc. as it pertains to P&C Engineering.
Required Qualifications

Engineering Technologist III
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology AND two (2)+ years minimum of related experience, OR
Associate’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology AND four (4)+ years minimum of related experience, OR
In lieu of degrees and experience listed above, high school diploma/GED AND six (6) years minimum of related experience
SR Engineering Technologist
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology AND four (4)+ years minimum relevant industry, OR
Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology AND six (6)+ years minimum relevant experience, OR
In lieu of degree and experience listed above, High School/GED AND eight (8)+ years equivalent experience
Key Skills and Experience
Experience in creating Analog RTU configurations, Point Assignment Sheet (PAS) and troubleshooting for systems based on CONITEL protocol.
Experience in creating RTU configurations, Point Assignment Sheet and troubleshooting for systems based on IP network.
Familiarity with NERC CIP compliance procedures related to Electronic Security Perimeter requirements and regulations.
Must be able to take verbal and written conceptual information from engineers and technical employees in order to independently develop detailed designs with all necessary documentation.
Familiarity with NERC-CIP
Familiarity with various communication protocols and telecommunications.
Ability to complete assignments within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.
Good general computer skills including Windows, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel) and programming languages.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) programming experience
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility
