The Engineering Technologist II position is second level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. The Engineering Technologist II applies technical expertise to solve more complex problems and management skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with general supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist II position are expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence.
The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist III position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise,
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities,
Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches,
Conducts engineering and related studies,
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance,
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
Maintains accurate records and files,
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Basic/Required Qualifications
Engineering Technologist II
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or
2+ years relevant industry experience and an Associate's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or
4+ years relevant industry experience with a high school diploma/GED
Engineering Technologist III
2+ years of relevant industry experience with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology or
4+ years of relevant industry experience and an Associate's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or
6+ years relevant industry experience with a high school diploma/GED.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Experience in applying the basic principles of project management
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience in the utility industry
Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations. However, employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility. The current requirement will be to report the office a minimum of 3 days per week. This requirement is subject to changing.
Work will be performed in both an office and field environment.
Storm response is also a requirement of this position including the support of other utilities
