Job Summary: You will serve as a Engineering Technician (Marine Gas Turbine Inspector (MGTI)) the Technical Division, Mediterranean Detachment of FWD DEPLOYED REG MAINT CTR DET ROTA, Spain.

Major Duties:

  • You will perform system testing to maintain the operability of the ship's Marine Gas Turbine Mechanical Systems.
  • You will propose unprecedented repair methods or techniques for gas turbine systems to meet ship schedules and availability deadlines.
  • You will oversee the performance of gas turbine inspections to maintain accountability of special tools and calibration equipment.
  • You will develop technical reports or proposals outlining program responsibilities, approaches, and recommend methods to evaluate progress.
  • You will review mechanical technical mechanical engineering work performed by others to ensure compliance with engineering practices or specifications.
  • You will troubleshoot equipment malfunctions of gas turbine systems to provide technical repair recommendations.
  • You will recommend solutions to resolve ship's Marine Gas Turbine Mechanical Systems' (e.g., air intake system, exhaust system) and related equipment problems.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provide technical services and support of major systems and equipment specific to Marine Gas Turbine engines and generators; 2) Perform testing and inspections of shipboard marine gas turbine systems or equipment to determine material condition and state of operability; 3) Identify and resolve repair/overhaul or test/grooming problems affecting the overall system; and 4) Conduct engineering analyses and studies for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance, safety and operation of assigned equipment/systems. Additional Information: Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office setting part of the time, abroad naval vessels at berths at naval facilities and shipyards in varying weather conditions. The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing and crawling in and around the system/equipment with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem. Standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting part of the time, abroad naval vessels at berths at naval facilities, ports, and shipyards and vessels underway in varying weather conditions. The work involves moderate risks and may require safety precautions. The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as high electrical voltages, large rotating machinery elements, and electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Small boats, helicopters, and aircraft flights are utilized for transfer to ship at sea. High line transfer from the ship to ship may be occasionally required.
