Job Summary: As an Engineering technician in the Engineering and Test Directorate, you will be an integral member of the team responsible for performing propulsion test activities at Stennis Space Center. Your skills will be highly utilized to fabricate, install, activate and operate technical systems necessary for the successful achievement of the goals of the Center, NASA and our commercial partners.

Major Duties:

  • Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Perform fabrication, installation, activation, and operation of mechanical and electrical systems supporting propulsion test operations at Stennis Space Center (SSC).
  • Independently operate test systems and equipment to support assigned activities.
  • Identify technical issues and implement solutions to maintain system functionality and test readiness.
  • Coordinate fabrication and operational activities across disciplines to meet project and schedule requirements.
  • Execute work instructions and adapt procedures to support complex test system operations.

Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-09, you must have: a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal service that includes: Performing fabrication or assembly of mechanical or electrical systems used in test or operational environments; Supporting installation, maintenance, or repair of mechanical or electrical equipment; Performing field activities such as system activation, equipment setup, or troubleshooting with limited supervision. OR b) Completed all requirements for a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR c) Completed at least 2 full academic years of graduate education in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR d) An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education To qualify for GS-10, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service: Performing fabrication, installation, or modification of mechanical or electrical systems used in test or operational environments; Troubleshooting equipment or systems to identify issues and take corrective actions; Performing field activities such as system activation, equipment setup, or maintenance with limited supervision. To qualify for GS-11, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service: Fabricating or modifying technical systems such as piping, tubing, or instrumentation used in test or operational environments; Identifying technical issues during system operation and taking corrective actions to resolve them; Applying required certifications to independently perform installation, maintenance, or operation of technical systems.
