Northrop Grumman, Western Region Manufacturing and Operations has an opening for a Engineering Technician 3/4 to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

Specialty Test is looking to fill a Level 3/4 Engineering Technician to help support all aspects/disciplines of Environmental and Specialty Test. The selected candidate must possess excellent communication skills and exceptional abilities to work well within a diverse team. Preferred candidate should have Structural Test experience and a general understanding of the hardware and methodology employed during a large variety of different testing environments and scenarios. This is a very unique role that requires the candidate to exhibit proficiency in both electrical and mechanical facets involved with all testing functions interchangeably. Candidate must have proficient familiarity with operating and the basic concepts pertaining to data acquisition and load control hardware as well as related instrumentation such as: LVDTs, Strain Gages, String Pots, Load Cells, etc.

The selected individual is expected to work for and under the direction of a senior level personnel, Engineers and or Engineering Manager. Candidate must possess the troubleshooting and interpersonal skills that will enable them to help manage statements of work and assignments in addition to mitigating issues within the entire Measurements team.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Contribute to the development, fabrication and assembly of mechanical and electromechanical components, sub-assemblies, systems and test stands.

  • Setup and operate Data Acquisition Systems, execute to test plans.

  • Participate in talent cross training efforts and mentorship assignments.

  • Ability to interpret Engineering drawings and fabricate/troubleshoot cable assemblies/harnesses with minimal to no oversight

  • Experience integrating and calibrating transducers (strain gages, load cells, LVDTs, inclinometers, etc.) with data acquisition system to record deliverable data

This position may require multiple shift operations and overtime work. Individual must be able to meet and maintain the specific process certifications to support daily task assignments.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications (Level 3):

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) required and minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience

  • Experience in structural / flight test or an integration / R&D environment.

  • Familiarity with Mechanical Engineering, Assembly and Test Operations department (standard) operating procedures/policies

  • Capable of obtaining and maintaining Top Secret DoD and SCI within a timely manner

  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 30 lb.

Basic Qualifications (Level 4):

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) required and minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience

  • Leadership experience, leading a crew, structural / flight test or an integration / R&D environment.

  • Familiarity with Mechanical Engineering, Assembly and Test Operations department (standard) operating procedures/policies

  • Capable of obtaining and maintaining Top Secret DoD and SCI within a timely manner

  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 30 lb.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lead role experience, 7+ years of testing experience including planning, set-up, and test execution.

  • Extensive Hydraulic and Pneumatic system, set up and checkout experience.

  • Extensive experience with strain gage installations and inter-bridge wiring configurations

  • Experience with Fiber Optic Strain sensor fabrication, installation, and system operation

  • Proficiency with general instrumentation, data acquisition, and load control set up and operation

  • Ability to assess anomalies and develop resolutions in conjunction with Engineering.

  • Ability to lead small-scale integration and test team including troubleshooting and modifying test sets to meet requirements

  • Ability to adhere to necessary processes, procedures, and protocols.

  • Ability to perform manual labor including but not limited to lifting and moving heavy test equipment, trench covers, often heavy cables and harnessing

  • Desire to learn and assume multi-disciplined technician roles such as: instrumentation, mechanical setup, dynamic testing, environmental/thermal testing

  • DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI

Primary Level Salary Range: $66,600.00 - $111,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $79,100.00 - $131,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
