JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Multimodal Systems Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate student.  You will assist other Engineering Technologists in their everyday duties. 

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

Typical Duties include:

  • Develop specialized electrical, mechanical, and/or software tools to support testing of electromechanical systems

  • Utilize computer-aided design software to develop electrical, mechanical, and/or software products

  • Document existing and new systems and architectures

  • Assist Engineering Technologists with their tasking.

Students studying Electrical – Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering are encouraged to apply.

Required skills/knowledge includes:

  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Familiarity with shop equipment, practices, and procedures.

  • Fundamental electrical circuit design.

  • Experience with MATLAB and LABVIEW

Preferred skills/knowledge includes:

  • Basic RF knowledge

  • Circuit board construction

  • Wiring harness construction and wire management,

  • Fundamental understanding of electronics and electronic test equipment.

The successful candidate will work up to 40 hours/week the during summer semester.  There is a possibility to continue beyond the summer. These positions will be onsite in State College, PA.

ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).
