Engineering Manager (DevOps), Charles River Development, Vice President

The Vice President – Engineering Manager (DevOps) role in Ireland provides senior technical and organisational leadership for the DevOps function. This role is engineering-focused, combining deep technical credibility with accountability for DevOps strategy, standards, and operational effectiveness. The role has direct line management responsibility for DevOps resources in Ireland and acts as the global functional owner for DevOps practices, tooling, and ways of working. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Define and drive the DevOps strategy, operating model, and standards across the organisation, ensuring alignment with platform and engineering goals. 
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight across automation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, cloud platforms, and security controls. 
  • Lead and manage DevOps engineers in Ireland, providing mentorship, direction, and performance management. 
  • Act as the functional owner for DevOps practices globally, ensuring consistency, sustainability, and continuous improvement. 
  • Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and infrastructure platforms using industry best practices. 
  • Ensure strong governance and compliance with security, audit, and SDLC requirements, embedding controls into automated pipelines. 
  • Direct architectural and tooling decisions related to cloud infrastructure, container platforms, and deployment strategies. 
  • Provide escalation support and technical direction for complex or high-impact production and operational issues. 
  • Partner closely with engineering, architecture, and security stakeholders to enable efficient and reliable software delivery. 
  • Promote clear, high-quality technical and operational documentation across all DevOps-owned systems. 

Qualifications: 

Recommended Education: 

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline required. Advanced degree desirable. 

Recommended Experience: 

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering roles. 

  • Proven experience providing technical leadership for DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure platforms. 

  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure, with familiarity across portal usage, virtual machines, Kubernetes services, networking, and cost management. 

  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code and configuration management tools such as Terraform and Helm. 

  • Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps tooling such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, TeamCity, and artifact repositories (e.g., JFrog Artifactory) or equivalent tools. 

  • Understanding of containerisation and orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes. 

  • Experience embedding security controls into pipelines, including security scanning, SSO integration, and user/access management. 

  • Strong documentation practices, including runbooks and operational guidance. 

  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading teams in a collaborative, agile environment. 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.
