Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating and directing the designing, building and overseeing the deployment and operation of technology architecture, solutions and software to capture, manage, store and utilize structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources. Establishes and builds processes and structures based on business and technical requirements to channel data from multiple inputs, route appropriately and store using any combination of distributed (cloud) structures, local databases, and other applicable storage forms as required. Develops technical tools and programming that leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning and big-data techniques to cleanse, organize and transform data and to maintain, defend and update data structures and integrity on an automated basis. Creates and establishes design standards and assurance processes for software, systems and applications development to ensure compatibility and operability of data connections, flows and storage requirements. Reviews internal and external business and product requirements for data operations and activity and suggests changes and upgrades to systems and storage to accommodate ongoing needs. May manage a team including exempt and non-exempt employees. Provides subject matter guidance to employees as required. Develops processes and procedures to drive department efficiencies. Assists in development and meeting of departmental budget.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide technological leadership in understanding business problems and work with the lead engineers to come up with technical solutions with due consideration to performance, cost, scalability and reliability providing a clear roadmap to implementation
  • Inculcate innovation-mindset in the team by guiding them on the latest technological trends and how they impact the Comcast landscape
  • Adopt to changing business and technology needs and ensure that the solutions created leverage the best options available in the market
  • Manage a team of data engineers providing and tracking their quarterly and annual goals which are aligned to the organizational goals
  • Execute projects in Agile - participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning and capacity management
  • Work with Lead / Sr Engineers to estimate the stories in the backlog during sprint planning
  • Assign stories to the team and track the progress in daily standups
  • Capture retrospective actions and ensure that the learnings are carried over to the subsequent sprints
  • Ensure user tickets are resolved on time with a clear downward trend, repeated incidents are reduced, process optimizations and efficiency opportunities are picked up in every sprint
  • Ensure team has clarity on responsibilities and are accountable to them
  • Responsible for identifying, coaching, developing, motivating, with technical guidance on software deliverables
  • Set continuous improvement targets for the team to achieve operational efficiency and plug technical debts
  • Cascade the data and platform strategy supporting the team in upskilling and prepared for the new technology roadmap
  • Establish, review and upgrade the development and operational standards & guidelines to ensure quality of the data assets being deployed
  • Resolve conflicting needs across stakeholders coming up with the a win-win solution
  • Effectively collaborate with the dx partners, business users and DevOps teams to manage roadblocks and to support business, product or technical goals
  • Set quality, productivity and innovation goals for team thereby developing a driven and motivated team
  • Ensure timely communication to the stakeholders and leadership on any outstanding issues / data issues and timeline changes
  • Conduct regular 1:1 with team to understand aspirations, challenges and support needed providing opportunities to showcase capabilities and develop new skills.

Skills and Experience

  • 12+ years of IT experience
  • 6+ years of experience leading data engineering teams creating solutions in Big Data platforms and AWS
  • 3+ years of experience in building containerized data engineering solutions using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Expert-level knowledge in Agile software development and CI-CD practices
  • Good communication and presentation skills catering to a wide range of target audience starting from IT developers to senior leadership teams
  • Strong team player who can shape the future state technical platform and applications
