Role Overview
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Platform organization and lead our India-based team within a global engineering group. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining active contribution to backend platform development with responsibility for mentoring, supporting, and growing a local team of engineers.
This role combines hands-on software engineering with day-to-day management responsibilities. The Engineering Manager will partner closely with engineers, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders across locations to deliver highly available, scalable platform services using Java, Spring, and Google Cloud Platform. In parallel, they will drive clarity and execution, foster strong collaboration, and support the growth and development of the engineers they manage within the broader team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of engineers, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and productivity within a globally distributed organization.
- Drive predictable delivery by managing workstreams, tracking progress, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
- Partner with product, architecture, and engineering teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture, design, code reviews, and contribution to backend development using Java, Spring, and Google Cloud Platform.
- Coach and develop engineers while promoting strong engineering practices, including code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
Must-Have
- Progressive career growth from hands-on software engineer to engineering leader, with 4+ years in an Engineering Manager / Tech lead role and 6+ years of prior development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring ecosystem, with experience building APIs and scalable, highly available backend services.
- Experience working in distributed, cross-functional teams, with strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Solid understanding of modern software development practices (Agile, CI/CD, testing, and production operations), along with experience in cloud-native development (preferably Google Cloud Platform) and a track record of coaching and developing engineers.
- Ability to actively engage in production incident management, including triage, debugging, and resolution, while leading a team.
