Technology is responsible for the world leading application of technology across every aspect of CommBank, from innovative product platforms for our customers to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive efficient and timely processing, an essential component of great customer service. CommBank is recognized as leading the industry in IT and operations with its world-class platforms and processes, agile IT infrastructure, and innovation in everything from payments to internet banking and mobile apps.
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will lead a team of Engineers and Architects. Areas of direct accountability include:
Emerging Technology
Enterprise Architecture
Engineering Practice, including Tooling
Cloud strategy
Networks
End User Technology
Hosting Services
Service Management
The CTO will be expected to influence and inspire a broader group of technologists within the bank.
Impact & contribution:
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be responsible for engineering the bank for the future, with an engineering-first approach. Oversee significant simplification and innovation, and deliver on a number of key strategic initiatives, including migrating to the Cloud, digitizing the business front-to-back and making CBA the number one digital bank globally. This person will be a critical leader in designing and building the bank for the next decade and beyond.

Provide counsel to the firm leadership on all aspects of technology and innovation including Blockchain, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence.
Enterprise Architecture, Governance & Standards:
Deliver an enterprise-wide simplification approach to technology strategy and implementation. Systematically decommissioning applications to ensure convergence across divisions.
Establish and ensure architecture and delivery governance.
Scale Agile & DevOps ways of working.
Oversee the Technology & Operations Academy for training, development and accreditation of the team.
Address critical infrastructure resilience (data centre, SAP, network).
Innovation & Commercial Output:
Develop the external view of the organization as being at the forefront of emerging technologies and an innovative market leader.
Create global partnerships with technology providers to enable CBA to become a leader in AI and Machine Learning, externally and internally.
Be an evangelist for the business units showing advantages of innovation
Introduce solutions which generate real business and support growth.
Work with technology partners and suppliers across the industry to identify emerging technology solutions that are relevant to business objectives.
Oversee technical innovation to further digitize and transform Corporate Banking into a world-class, market-leading business.
Enable the Small Business Segment to become increasingly digitized through digital platform capabilities.
Engineer a Market Service Architecture to open up APIs for other businesses to build and sell on it.
Anticipate long term business requirements and align the technology organization to respond promptly. Take advantage of new capabilities turning into competitive business.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage cross-functionally and partner with technology leaders to understand and deliver technologies that support their growth.
The main contact for executive management for all IT, innovation, engineering and architecture topics.
Attend management meetings and make regular presentations, white papers and strategic briefings on relevant topics.
Management:
Provide leadership to a bank-wide technology team, spanning architecture, engineering, cloud, tooling, DevOps and Project Management.
Provide technology leadership and inspiration to all employees and leaders within the bank, at a critical inflection point in the organization’s future. Leading and inspiring as the bank moves from being a regional digital leader to a global digital leader.
Enhance skills throughout the team through training and recruitment of world-class technology talent
Essential Skills:
18+ years of experience in global technology delivery, partner management, IT Strategy, Agile Transformation or related technical field
Technology leader with track record in building Technology Operation (both Change and Run), Technology Transformation and Innovation across Financial Services IT
Lead the capability built out for technology in India transforming the team into fully functional agile teams
Education Qualifications:
A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and master’s in management
