Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector is seeking an Engineer System Safety or Principal Engineer System Safety. This role is to influence design for meeting safety expectations and requirements for our Northrop Grumman Products.

The successful candidate will review product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establish safety requirements for assigned systems. Independently analyze and recommend safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards. Develop safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements. Performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program. Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions. Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program. The candidate will have experience in generation or review of design artifacts to support System Safety analyses utilized in maturing weapons system design for safety.

Basic Qualifications:

Level 2 Engineer System Safety:

  • 2 Years with Bachelors in Science: 0 Years with Masters
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Software Engineering and System Test organization to ensure acceptable safety critical function verification

  • Strong working knowledge of Software System Safety & Assurance to include MIL-STD-882(E), AMCOM Regulation 385-17

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards

·       Interface directly with government customers, prime contractors, certification authorities

  • Experience with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validation

  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) and Hazard Tracking

  • Experience with JIRA in an Agile environment

  • Active Secret clearance

Level 3 Principal Engineer Safety:

  • 5 Years with Bachelors in Science: 3 Years with Masters; 1 year with PHD
  • Ability to Perform and lead, Software Hazard Analysis (SwHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)

  • Review software architecture, design, and code-level implementation for safety-critical functions

  • Lead technical reviews, customer reviews, and safety working groups

  • Interface directly with government customers, prime contractors, and certification authorities

  • Mentor junior engineers and establish software safety best practices across the organization

  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Software Engineering and System Test organization to ensure acceptable safety critical function verification

  • Strong working knowledge of Software System Safety & Assurance to include MIL-STD-882(E), AMCOM Regulation 385-17

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards

  • Experience with requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validation

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,600.00 - $119,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
