We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Engineer Staff, Mfg Process to lead and strengthen high-precision manufacturing operations at Lumentum Thailand. This role plays a critical leadership position in process development, technical problem solving, and production readiness for both existing and new products.

The Engineer Staff, Mfg Process will act as a technical authority on manufacturing processes, driving robust, scalable solutions while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders and global engineering teams. This role is expected to influence manufacturing strategy, improve operational performance, and ensure product quality consistently meets both Lumentum and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Manufacturing Excellence

  • Lead complex process execution and technical issue resolution to consistently achieve production targets, yield, quality, and cost objectives.

  • Serve as the technical owner for assigned manufacturing processes, ensuring long-term process robustness, stability, and scalability.

  • Provide expert-level technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and production teams.

Process Development & Production Readiness

  • Lead the transfer, installation, qualification, and release of new processes and equipment from development through mass production.

  • Own manufacturing process and tooling design, validation, capability studies, and formal release to production.

  • Drive process optimization initiatives to improve yield, productivity, cycle time, and cost efficiency.

Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration

  • Act as the primary manufacturing engineering representative, collaborating closely with Production, Quality, NPI, Supply Chain, and R&D teams.

  • Partner with global engineering counterparts to align standards, share best practices, and support technology transfer initiatives.

  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including process development, pilot builds, qualification runs, and ramp-to-volume execution.

Data-Driven Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead advanced failure analysis activities, including hermetic seal inspections, cross-sectioning, root cause analysis, and defect characterization.

  • Apply statistical and data analysis tools (SPC, DOE, capability analysis) to identify trends, optimize parameters, and drive sustainable improvements.

  • Develop and implement preventive actions to eliminate recurring issues and strengthen process control.

Documentation, Training & Governance

  • Own and maintain critical manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, control plans, process flows, sample build reports, and optimization studies.

  • Develop and deliver structured training for production and engineering teams to ensure strong process understanding and discipline.

  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, regulatory requirements, and manufacturing standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a strong safety culture by adhering to all safety rules, using PPE correctly, and proactively identifying and reporting unsafe conditions.

  • Immediately report near misses, incidents, and accidents, and participate in corrective action initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Electronics, Photonics, Telecommunications, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in electronics, optical, photonics, or high-technology manufacturing environments.

  • Proven experience leading process development, equipment qualification, validation, and sustaining activities in high-precision manufacturing.

  • Strong expertise in failure analysis techniques, particularly hermetic seal FA, cross-sectioning, and advanced defect investigation.

  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing and quality methodologies such as SPC, PFMEA, DFMEA, MSA, DOE, or equivalent.

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (2D/3D), MS Office, and statistical/data analysis software such as Minitab or JMP.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical problems and drive decisions with limited guidance.

  • Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written) to effectively collaborate with global teams.

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and lead initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
