Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Software Engineer based out of Rolling Meadows, IL.

Manufacturing Engineers thrive in an environment of unique daily challenges and close proximity to products. Partnering with production, successful Software Engineers lead troubleshooting and ensure excellence in hardware and software. Engineers who do well in this setting enjoy seeing their work perform in a test or a product, collaborate and communicate well across functions, and are innovative problem solvers. Best suited to this role are those who enjoy learning and bring a sense of urgency and energy to their tasks.


The Software Engineer will be part of Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Engineering team, where they will work to support the LITENING Advanced Targeting Pod. This onsite, full-time position will support software efforts associated with testing, maintaining, and identifying improvements / corrective actions for a variety of electronic and optical systems, including lasers, infrared sensors, along with an assortment of production and test equipment and associated systems.

What you will get to do:

  • Support production and sustainment efforts of LITENING products within the Targeting Systems portfolio
  • Work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Upgrade legacy software
  • Troubleshoot production software
  • Writing and reviewing code to requirements
  • Work cross-functionally on software design, coding, integration, and validation
  • Interface / communicate with multiple levels of leadership, clients, and vendors
  • Engage with Systems Engineering to ensure optimal manufacturability of products
  • Design and validate software for new manufacturing processes

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.

Basic Qualifications for the Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Experience using C#
  • Experience in software design
  • Experience in software development, implementation, and troubleshooting
  • Experience completing software projects involving software design / development activities as well as integration and validation activities on schedule and on budget.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • US citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications for the Software Engineer:

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with programming in LabView
  • Experience using basic lab equipment, oscilloscope, function generator, etc.
  • Experience with Electro-optical systems
  • Experience using GitHub
  • Northrop Grumman work experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Project and Earned Value Management a plus
  • Active security clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $87,600.00 - $131,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
