Information Technology drives the strategic development, delivery, and operation of enterprise computing and information services. This function enables business value by anticipating needs, designing solutions, and executing strategies that strengthen operational performance.

The Software License Engineer plays a critical role in governing enterprise software assets and ensuring compliance across a complex IT environment. Leveraging the Flexera One SaaS platform, this position manages Tier 1 and Tier 2 software license portfolios, mitigating risk, optimizing costs, and delivering actionable insights that inform business decisions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing enterprise software license positions and compliance.

  • Partnering with Solution Owners, Product Owners, IT Asset Management, Procurement, and external vendors to oversee the full software asset lifecycle.

  • Driving governance and data-driven decision-making through advanced reporting and analytics.

This role requires deep expertise in software licensing models, Flexera One integration, and IT asset management best practices, with the ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Software License Engineer governs enterprise software licensing to ensure compliance, control costs, and enable strategic decision-making across a complex IT environment. This role combines technical mastery of the Flexera One platform with lifecycle governance, stakeholder advisory, and continuous process improvement.

License Management and Compliance

  • Serve as SME for assigned Tier 1 and Tier 2 software products, maintaining accurate entitlements and license positions in Flexera One.

  • Manage the software lifecycle from procurement through deployment, optimization, reclamation, and retirement using industry best practices.

  • Detect and remediate risk by identifying audit exposure, over‑/under‑deployment, and compliance gaps through analytics and reporting.

Flexera One Platform and Data Management

  • Deliver data‑driven insights that reveal cost‑saving, efficiency, and risk‑reduction opportunities.

  • Ensure data integrity by building and maintaining discovery, normalization, and license calculation integrations within Flexera One.

  • Collaborate with technical teams to identify and reclaim unused or underutilized software assets.

Stakeholder Partnership and Advisory

  • Advise Solution and Product Owners on licensing obligations, compliance responsibilities, and asset management best practices.

  • Coordinate cross‑functional activities with IT Asset Management, Procurement, Finance, and Engineering to support renewals, integrations, and governance.

  • Engage vendors and suppliers to validate licenses, align contracts, and support renewal negotiations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive operational excellence by identifying opportunities to automate and streamline license management workflows.

  • Advance SAM maturity by promoting Flexera One adoption and evolving software asset management capabilities across the enterprise.

Job Requirements:

  • Navigate a matrixed organization: Effectively operate within a highly matrixed environment and promote the use of analytics to generate data‑driven insights.

  • Build trusted relationships: Rapidly establish credibility and earn the trust of Solution Owners, Product Owners, technical leads, senior leadership, and other key stakeholders.

  • Govern software policies: Maintain controls and enforce best practices for software policies, procedures, and governance.

  • Support audit activities: Assist with software audits by producing accurate reports and delivering timely documentation.

  • Apply Flexera One expertise: Use deep knowledge of Flexera One concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to execute varied tasks and projects.

  • Contribute to policy and automation: Help develop policies, procedures, audit processes, and automation initiatives to improve SAM operations.

  • Design technical solutions: Develop innovative technical solutions for complex problems that align with organizational objectives.

  • Work independently: Complete assignments autonomously while receiving general guidance on new or unfamiliar projects.

  • Perform operational tasks: Execute operational and rotating team responsibilities such as group mailbox maintenance, BuyNow approvals, and ServiceNow patch and upgrade testing.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in asset management.

  • 3+ years of license experience of Genesys, Verint, Adobe, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle Java, Zoom, and other heavily utilized software products required. 

  • 2+ years’ experience in Flexera One ITAM.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the software asset management lifecycle, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Experience implementing indirect and direct connections in Flexera One preferred.

  • Proven ability to manage complex, large‑scope projects using critical thinking and long‑term vision to develop optimal solutions.

  • Experience working with indirect procurement, repairs and maintenance, and solution owners to ensure timely renewal of maintenance contracts.

  • Experience applying key license terms and conditions to identify and drive rightsizing opportunities.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high‑value savings reports

  • Minimum 2 years of experience generating reports using the ServiceNow Asset Management module.

  • Proficient in Excel (formulas, pivot tables, etc.)

  • Experience designing dynamic dashboards in Power BI preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Ariba or SAP BuyNow preferred.

  • Candidate must be amenable to flexible scheduling

  • Work‑from‑home ready with a minimum 45 Mbps internet connection.

  • Complete work independently while following overall project guidance.

  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced colleagues and support their development.
