Job Description:

Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for an Engineer I, II, or Senior to join our Power Supply team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.

What does an Engineer I, II, or Senior do for us?

This Engineer will be responsible for engineering and project management for the Power Production Project Management team. The primary focus of this position is executing civil betterment projects at Idaho Power’s hydroelectric plants and dams. This person will work within a team environment, under limited supervision. Responsibilities include:

  • Management of large, multi-year, capital projects including budget management and scheduling
  • Engineering and design support for projects managed.
  • Construction management at our hydroelectric facilities
  • Executing and managing contracts with multiple suppliers including change orders, shipping arrangements, and payments.
  • Develop cost estimates
  • Permitting and FERC licensing activities
  • Use engineering knowledge to develop project technical specifications
  • Evaluation and testing for equipment condition and performance
  • Manage resources, both Idaho Power internal and contract personnel
  • Position will include extended field projects at power plants in our service territory

Engineer I
Operating under general supervision and with oversight, an Engineer I is developing technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and receives guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.
 

Engineer II

Operating under limited supervision, an Engineer II has an intermediate level of technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads moderately complex assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and receives high-level guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.
 

Senior Engineer

Operating under minimal supervision and using independent initiative, Senior Engineers have comprehensive technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads complex assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and mentors other engineers and engineering support staff as needed.

Preferred:

  • Manage and coordinate multiple complex projects to schedule and budget
  • Applying engineering knowledge to real life betterment and repair projects
  • Rapidly develop solutions to problems as they arise in the field
  • Break tasks into small components and ensure all details are included in the finished product
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and diagrams


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution

OR

  • Bachelor in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited institution and a P.E. license

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering

Experience:

  • Engineer I – 0-2 years related experience
  • Engineer II - 2 or more years of related experience
  • Senior Engineer – 6 years of related engineering experience OR 5 years of related engineering experience plus PE or advanced engineering degree, and 3 years in the area of expertise

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in design, maintenance, or plant engineering of hydroelectric power plants
  • Previous experience refurbishing heavy equipment.
  • Project and/or construction management experience

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

Preferred:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) designation
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
    • Note: PE licensure in the State of Idaho will be a requirement for long term advancement


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is an office position. This position is a sedentary job requiring working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. Ergonomic accommodations including sit to stand desks are available and installed as needed. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. This job may require the performance of additional tasks assigned by company leaders or management. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Drive to various generation facilities as needed, with some overnight stays, occasionally multiple nights in a row. Position is based in Corporate Headquarters office in Boise with frequent travel to our generation facilities.
  • Occasionally work in proximity to hazardous areas and therefore must have thorough familiarity and strict conformance with all state and federal safety rules as well as Idaho Power’s safety procedures.
  • Must have adequate mobility to frequently climb multiple flights of stairs as well as the agility to crawl into and around complex machinery to access construction and maintenance sites and confined spaces.
