Ames National Laboratory is seeking applicants for an Engineer I within the Facilities and Engineering group. This position works within the Facilities and Engineering Services (FES) on management and maintenance of building energy systems. This position is responsible for evaluation of the performance of building systems. Works closely with the engineering and maintenance teams on mechanical controls, utility meters and commissioning. Coordinates assignment and scheduling of work to in-house tradesmen. May assist senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods and reports. Works under direct to general supervision and may receive guidance on more complex assignments. Follows established procedures for work assignments and completes assignments which are semi-routine and may be atypical in nature.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work with Ames Laboratory staff as well as external stakeholders and contractors. The candidate will also possess strong tact and maintain positive client and workplace relations. As problems arise, this individual will need to quickly identify beneficial solutions, so problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are advantageous. Strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within various programs and projects are essential for success in this position.
