Job Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
Engineer – Digital Twin and Validation
Join the ARC Robotics Technology Development team and help reduce development risks for next generation automation before it reaches the plant floor. As an Engineer on the ARC Robotics Technology Development team, you will own digital twin creation and sim-to-real validation for advanced robotics across GM. This role focuses on building accurate digital assets, aligning them to physical systems, coordinating with Facilities and contractors to maintain that alignment through the physical build process, and defining and executing validation methods that confirm virtual models represent real world performance.
Justification
Critical skills needed to support strategic automation initiatives and technology development across GM Manufacturing Operations.
Work Arrangement
On-site. This role requires the employee to be onsite five days per week.
The Role
The ARC Robotics Technology Development team develops advanced robotics and automation solutions for GM Manufacturing Operations. A key part of that work is reducing deployment risk by proving system behavior in digital environments and confirming that digital models accurately reflect physical hardware and layouts.
As an Engineer focused on Digital Twin and Validation, you will create and maintain digital twins for robotic systems, electro-mechanical assemblies, and lab test cells. You will ensure digital assets stay aligned with physical hardware, work with engineering teams, facilities, and contractors to bring physical builds into conformance with approved models, and define and execute validation methods to confirm sim-to-real alignment.
What You Will Do
• Create and maintain digital twins for robotic systems, integrated equipment, and lab test cells
• Develop digital assets that reflect physical layouts, interfaces, motion limits, and process interactions
• Work with Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, and Electro-Mechanical Integration engineers to keep models aligned with design intent
• Compare digital assets to physical assets and identify gaps in layout, configuration, or behavior
• Partner with Facilities and contractors to help ensure lab builds match approved digital models
• Drive alignment between virtual and physical environments through coordinated model and hardware updates
• Define validation criteria and acceptance thresholds for sim to real alignment
• Develop validation plans and test methods to verify digital twin accuracy
• Execute validation tests in lab environments and analyze differences between modeled and real world results
• Document results, deviations, and corrective actions clearly and consistently
• Improve digital twin workflows and sim to real validation practices across ARC
Your Skills and Abilities
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field
• Experience with digital modeling, robotic simulation, manufacturing simulation, or digital twin tools
• Strong understanding of automated systems, equipment layout, and manufacturing process interaction
• Ability to create accurate digital representations of physical systems and environments
• Experience developing validation criteria, test plans, and structured test methods
• Strong analytical skills and ability to identify sim to real gaps
• Ability to work across engineering, Facilities, contractor, and stakeholder teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to support hands on lab validation activities
What Will Give You a Competitive Advantage
• Advanced degree in Robotics, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Experience with Siemens Process Simulate or similar digital twin and simulation platforms (Nvidia Issac Sim, Roboguide…)
• Experience in automotive manufacturing, robotics, or industrial automation
• Familiarity with offline programming, virtual commissioning, or model based development workflows
• Experience coordinating digital models with physical build execution
• Track record of improving sim to real alignment through structured validation methods
