JOB OVERVIEW

We're seeking an Engineer 2 - R&D to support realizing KONE ideas and Research & Development projects into finalized designs. This role focuses upon innovative and competitive solutions for new Elevator & Escalator products or components in line with KONE Solution Creation Processes and Guidelines. Additionally, this role is responsible for assisting the Product Change Manager (PCM) with executing problem solving actions to respond quickly to urgent business unit needs, analyzing change requests, and creating detailed proposals of changes in specific technology areas related to component design, strength calculations, tool and systems, and layout drawings system behavior. This role comes with the authority to influence proposing justified design ideas/solutions to problems to work on, project planning and how own work is organized, effective ways of using one's own time, and effective ways of using tools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

Develop technical and visual design concepts for electrical and electromechanical systems, using industry-standard CAD and simulation tools

  • Prepare detailed design proposals and documentation in response to product specifications, customer requirements, or system performance targets.

  • Generate and evaluate innovative design ideas, conducting feasibility analyses and presenting recommendations for concept selection.

  • Prototype, test, and refine design concepts to validate functionality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Finalize designs by completing schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical drawings ready for production release

  • Verify and document compliance with relevant standards, safety regulations, and certification requirements (UL, CSA, NEC) Elevator standards like A17.1 and A17.7 are a plus

Create/maintain and provide correct design data for project & stakeholder collaboration

  • Ensure that all product data such as component specifications, bill of materials (BOM), and configuration details are correctly integrated within the product model.

  • Prepare and maintain technical drawings and documentation packages in compliance with company standards, ensuring traceability and version control throughout the design lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and testing) to ensure design data consistency and accessibility.

Develop capability

  • Identify and propose performance improvement opportunities in both design processes and engineering tools, leveraging knowledge of best practices and emerging technologies

  • Collaborate with team to evaluate, test, and integrate new tools, methods, or automation approaches that drive continuous improvement.

  • Apply process optimization techniques to enhance design efficiency, accuracy, and product reliability

HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.Sc. in Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering – can consider industries: Telecommunications, look for peripheral skillset

  • Minimum 2 Years of design work experience (flexible to consider strong candidates that have recently completed relevant internships)

  • Candidate Profile: We are seeking a talented engineer with strong theoretical and practical design skills in both analog and digital circuits. The ideal candidate will be adept at interpreting schematics, PCB layouts, and component selection, while applying design-for-reliability principles. Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools such as Creo or SolidWorks is required. This role involves close collaboration with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and global R&D groups to capture product requirements and define specifications. You will actively participate in design reviews, root cause analysis, and develop test and validation plans. A solid understanding of EMC/EMI compliance and electrical standards (UL, CSA, FCC) is essential, along with basic knowledge of embedded systems and project management concepts. Experience with PCBAs and electrical systems development is highly desirable, as is familiarity with collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, and PLM systems.

This role has been categorized as a remote position. Remote employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company.  Employees may live in any location within the area of the role’s scope of responsibility. 

 

The national hiring range for this role is $84,400.00 – $116,050.00 USD. The compensation package offered will depend on their ability to meet the requirements of the role and a range of factors unique to each candidate, including their skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and location. 

Variable Compensation
