We are looking for driven and talented Process Development Engineer to join our fast paced High Throughput Synthesis team. This manufacturing area delivers the key components of Illumina’s MicroArray Technology and sequencing products. The process engineering team is tasked with improving the maturity, scale, and efficiency of manufacturing processes; driving key initiatives that include capacity expansion, process scale-up activities, site transfers, and critical pieces of new product introductions supporting our Oligo Synthesis Mfg. area.

 

This individual will both be a driver in the execution of projects and provide technical leadership, partnering cross-functionally with R & D, Quality, Production and other engineering groups to manufacturing-ready processes for new products and sustain and improve processes for existing products.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in process development, continuous improvement, and other activities in the making of consumable products or support of processes/equipment used in Genotyping and Sequencing Mfg. areas.

  • Troubleshoot process issues related to yield, quality and throughput.

  • Construct and execute controlled experiments (including DOE's) to optimize processes, address yield and quality issues and drive implementation of solutions into a production environment to meet project goals.

  • Analyze process test results, issue reports, and make technical recommendations.

  • Work cross functionally with R&D, Manufacturing and Quality to develop processes for new products and improve processes of existing products.

  • Represent Operations needs on development teams.

  • Define technical requirements and write procedures for Production to process product.

  • Work on teams to develop and transfer new processes/products to production and enhance their robustness.

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Work experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical or semiconductor industries is desirable

  • Experience with biochemical processes preferred

  • Experience with validated manufacturing systems is desired

  • Experience with electronic document systems is highly desirable

  • Experience with product development processes, design transfer experience, and project management is a plus

  • Experience working in an ISO13485 or FDA certified environment is a plus

  • Experience in high-volume production in a high-tech consumables' industry is a plus

  • Experience in production support and/or process development is desirable

  • Experience with statistics, Statistical Process Control and DOE a plus

  • Oligonucleotide synthesis/sequencing/genotyping knowledge or experience a plus

  • High level problem-solving, troubleshooting and reasoning skills are required

  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals while working across departments is desirable

  • High level computer skills are required. Intermediate level programming knowledge is a plus

  • Good interdepartmental communication skills and documentation skills are required

Education:

  • BS/MS degree with 2+ years of related experience

  • Field of study in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with emphasis on Synthetic Organic Chemistry preferred

The estimated base salary range for the Engineer 2- Process Development, Oligo Synthesis role based in the United States of America is: $82,500 - $123,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
