Engine Assembly Technician (m/f/d)

Mission Brief 

As a Mechanical Technician at our rocket engine test site in Kiruna, you will play a vital role in supporting engine development and flight test operations. You will help operate, maintain, and upgrade state-of-the-art test facilities, engines, and related components. Your work will directly contribute to the safe and efficient testing of rocket engines and support our broader space mission.

Your Role in Our Space Mission: 

  • Perform assembly, maintenance, calibration, and repair of mechanical systems—including test rigs, rocket engines, high-pressure gas systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Support test operations by preparing mechanical systems—including test rigs, rocket engines, high-pressure gas systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Support commissioning, pressure testing, and engine hotfire activities by preparing equipment, following operational procedures, and documenting results.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues with engines and test facility systems, collaborating with your team and other functions (e.g., engineering, logistics) to resolve problems efficiently.
  • Assist with the installation and configuration of test equipment, ensuring correct setup for various test scenarios.
  • Follow established operational and safety procedures to ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, calibration, test activities, and incidents, as per company policy.
  • Participate in regular safety briefings and training to maintain high standards of competence.
  • Proactively suggest improvements to processes, tooling, and equipment to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and readiness of work areas, tools, and equipment.

Qualification Checklist 

  • At least 3 years of experience in a technical, hands-on mechanical role (preferably in aerospace, energy, or high-pressure systems).
  • Practical experience with hazardous systems/environments (e.g., cryogenics, pyrophorics, explosive atmospheres) is highly valued.
  • Hands-on experience with high-pressure gas systems: assembly, commissioning, leak checking, and operation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in the use of hand and power tools, measurement instruments, and test equipment.
  • Familiarity with maintenance and troubleshooting of complex mechanical and fluid systems.
  • Basic proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and procedures.
  • Safety-conscious mindset and knowledge of relevant safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in a development test environment, especially with cryogenics and high-pressure gas systems.
  • Relevant technical education, certifications, or licenses.
  • Experience with CAD software and MS Office suite.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and initiative.
