Macquarie University Hospital is embarking on a multi-faceted Electronic Medical Record (EMR) program, a transformative initiative designed to enhance the delivery, experience, and optimisation of clinical care across the organisation.

As an EMR Program Director, you will be the strategic architect and delivery leader of a major, multi-year Electronic Medical Record (EMR) program that will redefine how clinical care is designed, delivered, and experienced. It is a hospital-wide digital transformation which sits at the intersection of technology and clinical excellence. You will bring the leadership gravitas to guide executive decision-making and the program delivery expertise to ensure commitments are met.

This role goes beyond traditional IT program delivery, it is a strategic leadership appointment that will shape how digital clinical care is envisioned, built, and sustained at MUH. You will mobilise a multidisciplinary delivery team (Squads) from the ground up, partner with our EMR vendors, and translate clinical aspirations into a technically robust, patient-centred digital environment.

About the role

Reporting to our Director, IT Health, you will be entrusted with the strategic ownership and decision-making authority needed to shape, mobilise, and lead this program from the ground up. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • End-to-end delivery of the EMR program which includes planning, governance, phasing, and execution across multiple workstreams while ensuring delivery to agreed scope, timeline, budget, and quality outcomes.

  • Defining the overarching EMR delivery strategy, ensuring the digital environment reflects MUH's clinical excellence and research-led mission.

  • Partnering with the Senior IT Health Operating Model Manager to ensure the EMR roadmap is aligned with the IT Health Strategy.

  • Ensuring the EMR budget is invested in features and workflows that drive tangible clinical value, patient safety, and operational agility, while maintaining strong financial oversight, forecasting, and benefits realisation tracking.

  • Managing external EMR partners, holding them accountable to outcomes, including system usability and clinician satisfaction as well as delivery milestones, SLAs, and contractual obligations.

  • Establishing and leading governance structures including steering committees, executive reporting, and RAID management, ensuring clear visibility and proactive risk mitigation.

  • Coordinating across clinical, technical, and operational delivery streams, managing interdependencies while building sustainable internal capability so MUH can continue to evolve EMR.
