Job Summary: The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Employment Office Specialist. Major Duties:

  • Maintains the Senate Employment Bulletin/Internship Opportunities Bulletin by posting and removing advertisements; runs reports to determine which vacancies have been posted. Maintains communication with Administrative Managers and Chiefs of Staff within Member offices and committees to determine if the advertisements need to be archived or re-posted. Supports the Employment Office’s outward appearance to the public and the Senate community; develops graphics for Employment Office for printed and digital media to ensure the information is current on the Employment Office website; ensures graphical consistency throughout Employment Office publications and digital media. Responds to inquiries within the Employment Office’s general inbox; provides guidance to the general public looking for assistance from the Employment Office. Interviews Resume Bank applicants to provide guidance on employment in Congress ensuring applicants receive comprehensive information regarding congressional operations and Senate employment practices; reviews resumes and suggests methods for improvement. Supports Senator-elect resume collection during election cycle; coordinates with Senator-elect designees to provide applications of candidates and maintains metrics. Performs recruitment support duties for SAA recruitment as assigned by management, contributing to operational support and process improvements. Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: Required Work Experience At least 1-3 years of relevant experience in customer service. Required Special Skills/ Knowledge As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role. In keeping with the policy of conflicts of interest, relatives of Sergeant at Arms employees are not eligible to work in the Human Resources Office. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, departmental rules, regulations, procedures and functions, including policies and regulations set by the Senate Rules Committee and the Senate Committee on Ethics. Knowledge of office equipment, computers and relevant software/Web applications, and spreadsheets and databases. Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Senate staff and resolve customer problems. Knowledge of editing and publishing content on websites. Demonstrated understanding of compliance requirements and organizational policies, ensuring all work is performed in alignment with established standards. Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and appropriately with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing. Ability to apply strong analytical skills to evaluate information, identify issues, and develop effective solutions. Ability to utilize sound decision-making skills to select suitable approaches and actions in a timely manner. Ability to demonstrate resourcefulness by effectively identifying and leveraging available tools, information, and networks to resolve challenges. Ability to maintain a high level of customer focus by understanding needs, delivering quality service, and fostering positive customer experiences. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve shared goals and contribute to a cohesive team environment. Ability to adapt effectively to changing priorities, environments, and expectations, demonstrating flexibility in approach. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of Elementor/WordPress, Adobe Creative Cloud, or other software to produce digital and web content. Familiarity with the Senate office environment. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgement. Knowledge of Microsoft products. Working Conditions Sedentary.
