A Glimpse of the Job

The Employee Wellness Specialist I performs entry-level specialist duties and provides program support for the Texas A&M University employee wellness program.

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Program Planning and Implementation - Assists in planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring programs and services. Supports other Employee Wellness Specialists and Assistant Director to plan and develop specialized programs such as conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings, and workshops to facilitate program goals. Works collaboratively with the Wellness and Engagement Communications Coordinator to coordinate specialized program communications and marketing materials. Assists in the development of policies and procedures. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of budgets, special reports, and other documents. Creates, establishes, and maintains program files, databases, correspondence, and program materials. Must be in compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU regulations and procedures.

  • Partner Collaboration and Employee Engagement - Works collaboratively with the wellness and engagement team and its campus/community partners to creatively utilize targeted wellness programs and activities that cultivate a culture of employee well-being and improve employee engagement and retention. Attends meetings and conferences to discuss the progress of assigned programs. Serves as the first point of contact for program information and coordinates responses to requests for program information via the shared email inbox, wellness app, and/or social media. Monitors and communicates with employees via the direct wellness and engagement email account. 

  • Wellness and Engagement Research and Knowledge - Assists in researching industry wellness and engagement programs. Stays abreast and maintains knowledge of wellness and engagement trends, updates, and best practices. 

  • Other Duties - Performs other duties as assigned.

What you need to know

Salary Range: $45,000-$50,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field such as Health Education, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Texas A&M University employee wellness program work or volunteer experience.  

  • Some experience coordinating health, wellness, or engagement programs.

  • Experience leading personal interest related classes.

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

  • CPR and/or Group Fitness Instructor Certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.

  • Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.

  • Commitment to health and wellness.

Other Requirements and Factors

  • This position is security sensitive.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

  • This position may require 10% or more travel.

  • May instruct at least one group exercise, specialty class, or movement section each week.

  • This position allows telecommuting per TAMU guidelines.
