About the team and position
This isn't your average HR role. You'll be the crucial link between our teammates and the business, ensuring that every person at Carvana feels supported and treated with respect.
Carvana is looking for a dynamic HR pro with an insatiable desire to create a fun, safe, and fulfilling work environment. You aren't just an "HR Generalist"—you are a culture defender. Working closely with our Legal, Safety, and People Ops teams, you will navigate our ever-changing workforce with a customer-service-first mindset. When questions or concerns arise, you’ll provide expert interpretation and consultation, ensuring that every Carvana teammate feels heard, respected, and supported.
What You'll Be Doing (A Focus on Service & Ownership)
- Internal Customer Service: Serve as the ultimate resource for our teammates regarding employment and internal policies. We don't just "answer questions"; we provide solutions.
- Investigate with Integrity: Lead investigations into workplace concerns with extreme empathy, total objectivity, and a high sense of urgency.
- Radical Accountability: Own your caseload from start to finish. You’ll be responsible for timely reporting, impeccable documentation, and ensuring no ball is ever dropped.
- Proactive Problem Solving: Don't just wait for things to break. Analyze trends with our People Partners to develop proactive programs that keep our culture healthy.
- Low-Ego Collaboration: Partner seamlessly with Legal and other People Operations teams. We don't care who gets the credit; we care about getting it right for our people.
- Constant Learning: Stay ahead of the curve on new employment laws and people practices. You should be continuously inquisitive.
- Service-Driven Support: Manage the Integrity Line and the general HR inbox, providing professional, helpful assistance to ensure every teammate's inquiry is resolved effectively.
What You Should Know
Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Psychology, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in an HRBP or Employee Relations role, or managing complex workplace investigations.
- A functional understanding of employment law (you know the rules so that you can apply them fairly).
- Comfortable working in ambiguity—you don't need a manual to understand how to do the right thing.
The Cultural Fit (This is non-negotiable):
- Customer Service Obsession: You genuinely love helping people, and you define success by how clear and painless you make a challenging process for team members and leaders.
- High Accountability & Ownership: If you own a task, it gets done right, on time, and completely. You don't pass the buck or make excuses.
- A Willingness to Learn: You check your ego at the door. You thrive on feedback, see every mistake as a chance to improve a process, and are constantly looking to level up your knowledge.
- You lead with smart thinking and common sense, not just policy.
- You navigate highly confidential information with the highest degree of discretion and professionalism.
- You translate complex policies into clear, actionable language for both senior leaders and team members.
