Why this role matters
When life throws curveballs, you could be the person who helps someone catch their breath again. As an Emergency Relief Assessor, you’ll be a calm, compassionate guide for individuals and families facing financial hardship — listening to their story, assessing their needs, and opening doors to practical support when it matters most.
This is heart-led work with real impact. No two days are the same, and every conversation counts.

- Create safe, respectful spaces for community members through thoughtful interviews and Emergency Relief assessments, aligned with Doorways guidelines
- Use your judgement and empathy to determine the right assistance, in line with Doorways standards of practice
- Be a connector — linking people to the right services through referrals and advocacy, both within The Salvation Army and the wider community
- Tackle complex situations with confidence, escalating matters when needed to ensure people don’t fall through the cracks
- Keep things tight behind the scenes by maintaining accurate, up-to-date client records using TSA systems, including SAMIS
- Keep an eye on wellbeing and safety by identifying and reporting risks early
- Help shape better services by spotting gaps and sharing ideas that improve how support is delivered

- Real-world experience in the community services sector
- A genuine respect for diversity and experience supporting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Fluency in speaking English and Arabic.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and stay cool under pressure (contact centre experience is a big plus for Phone Line ER Assessors)
- A current and valid Working with Children’s Check
