Ariel investments

EM Equity Analyst—EM Technology

New York, New York Full Time

Ariel Investments is a premier, boutique, asset management firm. Our primary goal is to drive exceptional investment returns by bringing diverse perspectives together. The only way to beat a benchmark is to not look like one. As value investors, our thinking is deliberate and unconventional. We offer an independent, patient investing approach and aim to deliver excellence in any environment. We uphold our fiduciary responsibility to every shareholder, no matter how big or small.

At Ariel, we strongly believe that teamwork yields results—which is why we have Co-CEOs. John W. Rogers, Jr. and Mellody Hobson share a desire to cultivate leaders who are curious, focused and disciplined. We are nimble and efficient. Our drive is fanatical and intentional. Everyone plays their position, and each contribution is critical to our firm’s success. We seek subject matter experts who are unapologetically themselves. We encourage our employees to reach their full potential and we give them the runway to do so.

After four decades of active investing, we remain committed to our clients, our teammates and our community. We strive to be best-in-class investors and pioneer a path for those who entrust us with their financial future.

Who we’re looking for:

An experienced buy-side research analyst to cover technology companies in Emerging Markets. The role requires solid fundamental research capabilities, advanced financial modelling and valuation skills, clear communication, and accountability for investment decisions.

A background in global technology is required. Experience in emerging markets and value investing is preferred.

Additionally, we are seeking a candidate with a strong record of professional excellence, natural intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to engage in thoughtful debates within a team-based decision-making environment.

The team:

This role offers the opportunity to join a well-established team with a long history of EM investing. The team launched EM value and EM value ex- China strategies at Ariel in April 2023.  The role combines the stability of a well-respected value firm with an entrepreneurial opportunity to help build and grow the emerging markets business.

Our investment philosophy is rooted in value with a catalyst. We identify companies with attractive and sustainable returns that are underappreciated by the market. We focus on inflection points in business fundamentals and strive to capitalize on price dislocations and short-term market inefficiencies to drive long-term capital appreciation.  A disciplined approach to valuation is critical to success.

Each person plays a defined role, and each contributes to the team’s and firm’s success. We seek subject matter experts who can formulate and defend a point of view, while being open minded to other opinions, in order to ensure the portfolio reflects the best ideas. We support employees to reach their full potential by offering a runway to do so.
