The primary purpose of this position is to operate, install, check, and maintain a variety of specialized electronic equipment and systems for processing data according to requests submitted.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Electronics Technical Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-08 or equivalent in other pay systems. An example of creditable specialized experience includes work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. OR EDUCATION: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree that it is directly related to the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to operate, fabricate, install, and maintain specialized data processing systems which measure and record test parameters from a variety of environmental, field, or laboratory conditions. 2. A thorough knowledge of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems and components associated with airborne and ground telemetry systems. 3. Knowledge of advanced electronic concepts and ability to convert theoretical ideas to functional components and systems. 4. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems. 5. Ability to use electronic test equipment. 6. Ability to perform calibration and troubleshooting for installed instrumentation systems, including video recording, digital data recording, weapon function monitoring, and other data collection systems. 7. Ability to provide technical leadership to other technicians and support personnel Ideal candidate: Has experience with electronic systems and systems of systems, especially those related to Telemetry processing Excels in an on-the-job learning environment by applying existing skillsets, flexibility, teamwork and expertise Demonstrates success in highly collaborative, team environments requiring scheduling flexibility and dynamic changes PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
