Major Duties:

  • You will use test systems to test and evaluate electronic equipment pertaining to weapons systems and related equipment.
  • You will conduct electrical engineering studies to assess the feasibility of the development, testing, or repair of ship electrical systems.
  • You will interact with engineers and technicians to discuss test set-up, approach and data collection instrumentation to ensure test event requirements are met.
  • You will interface with personnel (e.g., management, technical representatives, customers, contractors, vendors) to discuss technical issues supporting warfighter system operations.
  • You will resolve urgent system deficiencies to correct mission degrading casualties (CASREPS).
  • You will perform all phases of troubleshooting, installation, operation, testing and maintenance for electronic equipment and antenna systems to ensure compliance with maintenance and material management standards.
  • You will conduct material condition and functional assessments on complex electronic equipment.
  • You will conduct radar collimation alignment verification and adjustments on radar antennas.

Qualifications: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Troubleshooting, repairing, and configuring Aegis MK99 Fire Control Systems and their interfaces; 2) Solving problems affecting the Aegis MK99 Fire Control Systems with mechanical, electrical, electronic, and other engineering disciplines; 3) Providing technical assistance for mission degrading Casualty Reports (CASREP); and 4) Providing technical services to include inspecting, repairing, and providing training on Aegis equipment and systems (e.g.MK-99 Fire Control System, SPG-62 Antenna System, MK82 Director System, Operational Readiness Test System (ORTS), BMD Kill Assessment Systems (KAS). Physical Demands: Approximately 20% of the work is performed in an office setting. The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing, and crawling in and around the equipment with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem. Standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits. Work Environment: The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships, explosive, flammable, or incendiary materials, turbines, and condensers, and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line. The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships, explosive, flammable, or incendiary materials, turbines, and condensers, and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line (sonar domes, tanks, etc.). The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft.
