Job Summary: The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol; Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, Capitol Building; Assistant Superintendent, Capitol Building and Capitol Visitor Center Operations and Maintenance Division; Maintenance Branch; Electrical Section, Day Electrical Unit (including weekends and holidays as needed).

Major Duties:

  • Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday - 2:00 pm - 10:30 am Hours may Change due to Operational Needs of Management Duties: The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to maintenance, servicing and upgrading fire protection systems as well as ancillary support for projects occurring in spaces protected by these systems. Assists in the assessment of fire protection requirements related to various construction projects. Performs preventive maintenance of fire protection systems to ensure compliance with contract specifications and notification of Contracting Officer Technical Representatives (COTR), Troubleshoots and repairs both fire protection systems and building wiring linked to these systems. Applies a broad, practical and precise knowledge of electronic and electrical principles and practices to perform a complete range of electronic mechanical work related to installation, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, aligning and calibration of complex electronic integrated System components. Performs operational tests of newly installed electronic assemblies and major components which frequently perform two or more substantially unrelated electronic functions. Isolates malfunctions where each is dependent on the interaction of one segment with another in the performance of an orderly working system. Performs tests to identify complex integrated circuitry malfunctions and repair the interface of components in relation to operational performance requirements. Verifies and proof tests equipment being used to determine if such equipment and/or procedures are within acceptable tolerances. Isolates problems and determines nature and scope of repairs and replacements required by making voltage, frequency calculations, tracing circuits and relationships in the signal flow through the use of schematics and applicable drawings. Repairs ground faults and/or replaces individual parts such as integrated circuits or transistors. Adjusts and checks replacement parts, accessories and components for electrical/mechanical alignment. Completes tests ensuring that all components are operating within prescribed limits and tolerances by applying a knowledge of the interrelation of all components of the item, such as a variety of complex electronic assemblies, subassemblies, related devices and equipment. Performs operational checks of advanced electronic assemblies in accordance with vendor procedures. When no established documentation exists, determines the method and technique necessary to perform electronic tests. Reviews manufacturer's specifications, analyzes input-output signal flow, identifies circuit characteristics, designs an adapter and determines interface mating hardware to route signal data. Coordinates with engineers to provide technical input on matters affecting operating specifications and changes to equipment.

Qualifications: You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.
