Job Summary: This position is located in Grand Canyon National Park, in the Facility Management and Engineering Division, within the Utilities Branch.

Major Duties:

This is an opportunity to work in state-of-the-art facilities scheduled to be commissioned from late 2025 through 2030. In total, three new water treatment facilities and three new wastewater treatment facilities will be constructed and placed into service. Major Duties: Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of highly complex Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computerized control systems that have been custom designed for the Grand Canyon National Park Utilities Systems operation, including high speed microwave digital communications systems, fiberoptic modems, high speed digital subscriber lines, and dedicated T-1 lines used to provide wide area communications network for system monitoring and controlling of utility systems equipment located in 18 sites throughout the Grand Canyon National Park. Network administration for a Windows NT based Wide Area Network utilized by the Utility Section for SCADA Control. Required to set up PC based controllers, assign network addresses, troubleshoot and develop PC based SCADA programming languages to include Flow-Logic and Ladder-Logic programming code. Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of programmable logic controllers (PLC), ethernet I/O modules, and PC based controllers at various installations throughout the Utilities System at the Grand Canyon National Park. Perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of out-put control devices including variable frequency drives, motor control center relays, electric motor operated valves, pneumatic operated valves and equipment, hydraulic operated valves and equipment, current modulated valves, electrical and internal combustion motors and engines, a variety of pumps, mixers, grinders, clarifiers and aeration basin drives, agitators, and other processing equipment installed throughout the water and wastewater utility within the Park. Performs installation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of microwave and VHF spread-spectrum and direct sequence radios and assorted antenna systems and arrays including parabolic, YAGI, di-pole, and multi-pole antennas. Installation, repair, and calibration of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems including pumps, motors, automatic and manual valves, controllers, grinders and cutters, dewatering equipment, system drivers, chemical feed systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and other related water and wastewater systems equipment. Area Information: This position is stationed at Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim located in Northern Arizona. The South Rim is located approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 82 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 90 degrees in the summer to 0 degrees in the winter. Annual precipitation averages around 13 inches. Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, churches, a recreation center with gym, a public library, a clinic with resident physicians, and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 2,500 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk or bike from their homes to work. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Flagstaff has a population of about 75,000 and has multiple K-12 public and private schools, Northern Arizona University, and diverse community, medical and other support services. Recreational opportunities include hiking, backpacking, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities. South Rim Housing: Permanent and Term employees with a Full Performance Level (FPL) of a GS-09 or WG-8 and above will be provided the option of accepting assigned housing, participating in the normal bid system, or accepting shared housing. Permanent and Term employees with an FPL of GS-08 or WG-7 and below may be provided the option of participating in the normal bid system or accepting shared housing. Any employee assigned to shared housing may continue to bid into non-shared housing.

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of A WG-2606-12 Electronics Industrial Control Mechanic Without More Than Normal Supervision including: experience working on electronic industrial systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), inspecting complex industrial controls installation projects, reading and interpreting complex schematics, writing diagrams, sketches, engineer drawings, blueprints and instructions pertaining to the installation or maintenance of electronic equipment; performing energy audits to identify energy abuses. I worked independently, requiring guidance in only the more complex or unique situations.
