About Us
At arculus, we design, build, and operate cutting-edge autonomous mobile robots and the software ecosystem around them. Our development department brings together experts in electronics, mechanics, software, and robotics, working closely across disciplines to deliver reliable, compliant, and high‑performance robotic systems for real-world applications. We are looking for an experienced Electronics Systems Architect to take a central role in shaping the electromechanical foundations of our mobile robot platforms.
Your roleAs an Electronics Systems Architect at arculus, you are responsible for defining, developing, and validating the overall electronic and electromechanical system architecture of our autonomous mobile robots. You translate high-level product and system requirements into robust, scalable, and compliant architectures, ensuring performance, safety, reliability, and manufacturability across the full product lifecycle. You work closely with product management, software, mechanical engineering, quality, production, and external partners, acting as a technical authority for system-level electronic design decisions. Your tasks will include:
- Define and own the end-to-end electronic and electromechanical system architecture for mobile robot vehicles, including electrical topology, power distribution, and subsystem interfaces
- Translate high-level product requirements (e.g. range, payload, speed, operating conditions) into clear, testable system and component-level specifications
- Dimension and size critical subsystems such as batteries and energy storage, charging infrastructure, power electronics, motor controllers, and electric motors based on load profiles and efficiency analyses
- Specify, select, and technically assess electronic components and subsystems in collaboration with qualified suppliers, balancing cost, performance, reliability, and lead time
- Validate components and subsystems through simulations, proofs of concept, laboratory testing, and dedicated test benches prior to system integration
- Plan, execute, and document system-level verification and validation activities, including functional, performance, stress, and reliability testing on both test setups and robot platforms
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards, including planning and execution of EMC pre-testing and certification activities
- Build and monitor system-level reliability metrics (e.g. MTBF) and incorporate lessons learned into architecture improvements
- Provide third-level (L3) technical support for complex field issues and feed root-cause findings back into design and validation processes
- Collaborate closely with production and manufacturing engineering to ensure design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA)
Your experience
- MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a comparable field, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in electronic or electromechanical system design, preferably in robotics, automotive, industrial, or embedded systems environments
- Strong system-level understanding of power electronics, electric drives, motors, energy storage systems, and electronic fundamentals
- Proven experience in requirements and system management, including documentation, traceability, and change impact analysis
- Experience working with suppliers and external partners for component development, PCB design, and manufacturing
- Hands-on experience with electronic measurement and validation tools (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers)
- Solid experience planning and executing product validation and certification activities (e.g. CE, EMC)
- Structured, analytical mindset with the ability to make sound architectural trade-offs in complex systems
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional, international teams
- Proficiency in English is required; German is a plus
