Job Summary: The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Supt Facilities Operations Division, Elevator and Subway Branch. Responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and electronic adjustments of the Senate subway system.

Major Duties:

  • Tour of duty for this position is: 2nd Shift Monday thru Friday 12:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. This is a career ladder position to the WG-11 The individual selected for this position will: Subway System Maintenance: Carries out complex electromotive equipment maintenance and repair functions, including identifying and repairing electrical, mechanical and electronic problems in the control, guideway, vehicle, or platform assemblies of the subway systems. Uses electronic test meters, precision measuring instruments, and test procedures. Corrects settings, pressures, resistances, or clearances of system components, controls, motors, mechanical guides, structures, and accessories. Cleans and lubricates components of the electromotive structure. Repairs or replaces parts; aligns rails; ensures continuity of electrical wires and conduits; resets safety controls; and aligns drive mechanisms. Utilizes schematics and blueprints to identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot operational failures, and to trace and repair electrical, electronic and mechanical problems. Overhauls axle assemblies using a dial indicator, replacing wheels and bearings, tightening bolted connections and examining differentials for leaks or other malfunctions. Performs advanced welding, machine tooling, electrical and mechanical work. Electronic and Electrical Adjustments: Calibrates drive components, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs all electrical and electronic circuitry. Synchronizes multiple systems that involve problems related to resistors, capacitors, diodes, relays, transformers, solenoids, ribbon cables, digital and LED displays, and transistors. Independently analyzes the causes of electronic service interruptions utilizing Motion Control Engineering tools, Allen Bradley Frequency Drives and non-proprietary tools to test and adjust complex components including Programmable Logic Controllers, applying PLC Ladder Logic and EPROM programming, utilizing computer terminals for integrated circuits, melding fire alarms, security lockouts, CCTV, and telecommunications. Performs other related duties as assigned.
