Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

Essential Duties: 

Redwood Materials is seeking an Electrochemical Engineering Intern during the Summer 2026 timeline to support our research and development, pilot projects, and commercial scale production operations. This role will include work in electrochemistry, chemistry, and several disciplines of engineering. The role will include laboratory test work and model-driven development with an eye towards rapid scale-up. 

Responsibilities Will Include: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Pursuing a B.S. or advanced degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, electrochemistry, or another discipline with significant relevant coursework.  
  • Able to operate independently, conducting experiments in a wet chemistry lab that include hazardous materials and power supplies.  
  • Comfortable with spreadsheet-based analysis and modeling.
  • Self-motivated, hands-on mindset, with a willingness to contribute at all levels.  
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!   

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to perform essential job functions in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including meeting both qualitative and quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance in line with ADA, FMLA, and applicable standards
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety gloves, helmets, and eyewear, or additional PPE when required
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively on the telephone, including listening and speaking 

Working Conditions:  

  • Office and laboratory settings, may include pilot plant setting
  • Exposure to loud noise, extreme heat or cold, dust, fumes, or hazardous chemicals with appropriate controls and PPE 

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
