Perform electrical duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, state, and federal environmental regulations.
Job Description:
Essential duties:
- Performs job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Performs electrical inspections on all in-service mining equipment and record repairs and findings into federal inspection book
- Maintains & repairs low, medium, and high voltage electrical circuits.
- Installs/removes power cable from high voltage mining circuits.
- Performs troubleshooting on AC and DC circuits.
- Repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots DC motor and generator circuits on mining equipment.
- Operates mining support equipment.
Other duties:
- Operates the equipment to diagnose problems and to test after repair.
- Operates light vehicles to travel throughout the mine site. Maintains work area in a safe and clean manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and instructions, and electrical prints and schematics.
- Knowledge of National Electric Code, MSHA regulations.
- Knowledge of basic electrical theory.
- Knowledge of high voltage switchgear and be able to safely operate it.
- Knowledge of basic electrical test instruments.
- Knowledge of PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives.
- Obtain MSHA Electrical Certification becoming a Qualified Person – able to perform electrical work in a mine after 1 year of work experience.
- Communicate and work well with co-workers, supervision, and management.
Required Education and Training:
- Electrical technical training at a vocational school or an electrician apprenticeship
- Possess MSHA Electrical Certification or be able to obtain it within the required time.
