Job Description and Responsibilities
Electricians play a vital role in ensuring everything runs smoothly within a plant or assigned area. They are the experts responsible for inspecting, repairing, and installing all types of electrical equipment, devices, and circuits, regardless of voltage. Their work goes beyond just repairs; they also ensure that everything is safe and compliant with standards. When new installations are introduced, electricians manage those as well, making sure everything is wired correctly and functions properly. With their skills and knowledge, electricians help create a safe and efficient environment for everyone, allowing us to work without any disruptions.
- Receives wiring diagrams, specifications, and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repairs, installation, and inspection work to be done
- Analyzes various types of drawings and wiring diagrams to identify and install circuits and equipment, determine needed materials or replacements, and select a logical approach to troubleshooting and repairing problems
- Plans details or working procedures to effect the most logical approach to the job
- Considers all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations
- Identifies necessary tools and materials, tests for potential up to 20 kV, works on “hot” lines up to 480 volts, and replaces coils, resistors, relays, and rheostats
- Plans and performs work requiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment
- Locates the source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation
- Dismantles, inspects, repairs, adjusts, or replaces faulty parts and wiring on motors, generators, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, and electronic devices. Reassembles, tests, and adjusts equipment for safe and proper operation
- Adjusts contactors, relays, bus rigging, and reconnects terminal leads, panel boards, and distribution feeders, and makes power cable splices
- Installs conduit, fittings, switches, controls, and fixtures, and wires and connects all types of equipment as required for new installations or replacement of facilities
- Observes and follows all safety rules and regulations
Requirements
- Has an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Electrician Certificate.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience with PLC / Automated Control, AC/DC controls, and motor systems
- Must be able to work shift work (12hrs, rotating nights and days)
- Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings
- A thorough, comprehensive understanding of electrical principles
- Basic understanding of Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Able to work in a large industrial plant facility and comfortable working inside and occasionally outside in variable weather conditions as needed
- Able to learn, retain, and apply new knowledge; possesses good written and verbal communication skills, along with strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical abilities
- Commitment to the health and safety of all employees on site and the safe use and operation of all electrical equipment. Responsible for the flow of electrical power where others are exposed to potential accidents
Position base wage: $54.56/hr
