Job Description:

Overview

Entry and training level electrical systems work in the installation, maintenance, relocation, repair, and expansion of the City’s electrical infrastructure, wires, cables, lines, conduit and equipment, including underground and overhead services.

Essential Functions

  • Assists electricians with troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, repairing, installing, and modifying electrical systems and infrastructure such as exterior and interior lighting and controls, power circuits, wiring, and devices.

  • Completes all task adhering to applicable codes and standards.

  • Assists with preventable maintenance tasks.

  • Helps with the installation of electrical equipment.

  • Follows complex directions with attention to detail.

  • Works from aerial lift and elevated platforms.

  • Maintains records for repairs performed by completing workorders and other paperwork.

  • Maintains a safe work environment.

  • Cleans and performs operator maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous and professional engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED,

  • One (1) year experience in electrical systems installation, maintenance, and repair,

  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license,

  • The ability to possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or higher State of Florida Commercial driver’s license (CDL) within six (6) months of employment is required.

Job Based Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of the standard practices, tools , and terminology of the electrical trade in Municipal and Industrial environments.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory.

  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices as laid out in the NFPA 70-E standard for electrical safety in the workplace.

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with requirements of the National Electric Code (NEC).

  • Ability to assists in the troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, repairing, installing, and modifying electrical systems and infrastructure such as exterior and interior lighting and controls, power circuits, wiring, and equipment.

  • Ability to receive and execute work instructions efficiently and accurately.

  • Ability to distinguish colors.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

  • May be required to be on call and or work overtime as circumstances dictate.

Responsibility

Organizational Status: Under the direction of and responsible to the Department Head or designated representative. 

Physical Requirements

This position requires heavy lifting including the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently.  Position requires considerable physical activity, including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, standing, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, and crouching.  Incumbent is subject to inside and outside activities with no effective protection form weather changes, noise, vibrations, potential job hazards, confined spaces, and atmospheric conditions.  Visual acuity is required to inspect equipment, operate equipment, and perform maintenance tasks.  Being able to distinguish colors is an essential safety component of this position. Position requires hearing sufficient to accurately understand information at normal spoken word levels.
