Job Description
Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of various equipment and systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment. This role typically requires a versatile skill set, as the technician must be capable of working on a wide range of machinery, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Maintenance and Repair: Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on various industrial machinery, equipment, and systems, including but not limited to motors, pumps, conveyors, PLCs, HVAC systems, and electrical panels.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures, determining root causes, and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime.
- Electrical Work: Install, repair, and maintain electrical systems, including wiring, circuit breakers, transformers, and control panels, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and safety regulations.
- Mechanical Work: Perform maintenance and repair of mechanical systems, including bearings, gearboxes, belts, and other mechanical components.
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems: Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including valves, cylinders, and compressors.
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding, brazing, and metal fabrication tasks as needed for equipment repair and modification.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and actively participate in safety training and audits.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, maintenance logs, and inventory usage. Update and maintain equipment manuals and schematics.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, contributing ideas for enhancing equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance technicians, engineers, and production staff to coordinate repairs and maintenance activities. Provide guidance and training to junior technicians as needed.
Work Environment:
- The work is performed in a manufacturing or industrial setting, which may include exposure to noise, heat, cold, and other environmental factors.
- The role may require working in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as on-call availability for emergency repair.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical school training in electrical work is highly preferred.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.g., PLCs, high-voltage systems) are beneficial.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience with industrial electrical and/or maintenance or similar role.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including motors, generators, transformers, and control systems.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical issues.
- Familiarity with PLC programming and automation systems.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal electrical codes and safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various industrial environments.
- Capable of lifting heavy equipment and working in physically demanding conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call shifts as needed.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing plant that involves exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and varying temperatures. Adherence to safety protocols is critical to avoid injury.
