About you and this role:

You serve as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical skills in electrical distribution and protection to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems, and enable safe and efficient production of low cost, quality products. You are required to have broadened conceptual and working knowledge and experience in job discipline to perform a range of work assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the operations team leveraging their problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
  • Elevates and appropriately applies knowledge of electrical substations and associated technology referencing historical data and conferring with Technology Center or other subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and utilized and that process automation is used as a tool to optimize plant performance.
  • Responds to plant emergencies in a timely manner (in person as needed) on a rotating “on-call” schedule.
  • Utilizes defined MET and challenges/escalates MET application and assumptions when better solutions arise.
  • Partners with experts to perform advanced troubleshooting and improve and document operating discipline.
  • Diagnoses and documents root causes of asset utilization losses in the facility.
  • Understands why specific procedure steps and precautions are needed and keeps a strong field presence to reinforce the importance.
  • Conducts daily review of logbook and alarm history to better understand the plant operation and stay engaged with daily activities.
  • Maintains, owns, and reviews daily Key Process Indicators (KPI)/ trends to ensure optimum performance.
  • Acts as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drives implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensures compliance with plant operating permits. Understands site integration and provides input to optimize the overall system.
  • Develops and maintains, as requested, a model that identifies the unit operations, equipment, process, etc. that identifies the value of opportunities for improvement.
  • Participates in plant health study and efforts to implement corrective action to maintain or improve plant health.
  • Optimizes Predictive Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities, on an on-going basis, to support overall productivity improvements.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. (i.e. engineering, manufacturing or related experience)
  • Must have the ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

  • Communication: Effectively conveys technical insights and operational updates to cross-functional teams, including operations, technology centers, and subject matter experts. Maintains a strong field presence and uses communication to reinforce procedural compliance and safety awareness. Actively participates in daily reviews and team discussions to ensure alignment and clarity on plant performance and priorities.
  • Preventive Action Reliability: Demonstrates a proactive approach to plant reliability by identifying root causes of asset utilization losses and implementing corrective and preventive actions. Supports plant health studies and drives initiatives that maintain or improve operational integrity, ensuring long-term equipment and process reliability.
  • Proactive Identification: Regularly monitors Key Process Indicators (KPIs), alarm histories, and logbooks to detect early signs of performance deviations or potential issues. Uses historical data and expert consultation to anticipate problems and initiate timely interventions that prevent disruptions and optimize plant operations.
  • Proactive Troubleshooting: Leverages technical expertise and collaboration with operations and technology experts to diagnose and resolve complex plant issues. Acts urgently during unplanned events, applying structured problem-solving methods and Most Effective Technology (MET) to restore and enhance production performance.
  • Electrical Equipment: Applies in-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles to support the safe and efficient operation of plant electrical systems. Ensures compliance with safety standards and contributes to the optimization of equipment performance through maintenance planning and system modeling.
