About This Role

Dow has an exciting job opportunity as a Electrical Maintenance Technician in Freeport, Texas. 

This position is within the Technical Support- IEA department and provides Electrical Maintenance support across all of the Texas Operations plants. Primary responsibilities include maintaining and supporting Electrical Equipment. Provide support for engineering and projects, commission equipment, provide maintenance testing support. Equipment Support includes the following: VFDs, UPS', Chargers, IR Scans and Transformer Sampling This role is within the IEA-Engineering and Maintenance Organization, the role will provide growth and opportunity to become a Subject Matter Expert within the IEA Organization.

Responsibilities

  • Power Electronics maintenance testing of in-service equipment. (VFDs, UPS', Chargers, MCC enclosures)
  • Perform Maintenance using Digital Tools
  • Provide scope and maintenance testing of Power Electronics equipment during facility outages and turnarounds.
  • Provide technical support on Transformers through testing and Oil Sampling.
  • Perform scheduled and predictive maintenance support for Power Electronics equipment based on Manufacturer's specifications and Dow's Maintenance Plans.
  • Troubleshooting Power Electronics Equipment issues (Thyristors, Capacitors, VFDs, Chargers)
  • Cable Fault Locating
  • Electrical Documentation updates (one-line diagrams and control circuit drawings)
  • Responsible for using and revising electrical-testing procedures, documentation and evaluation of all test results.
     

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of 2 Years of Electrical experience in an industrial setting.  
  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.
  • Strong electrical safety focus. Consistently have zero injuries and actively support safety policies and initiatives.
  • Must be willing to make call outs and work overtime per department needs.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process. 

Preferred Requirements

  • An Associate's Degree in Electrical/Instrumentation Technology OR 3 or more years in Military Training in a related field OR A recognized Instrument or Electrical Apprenticeship Program
  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Equipment (Transformers, VFDs, Circuit Breakers)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
  • Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Wear and use respirators. 
  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.  
  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.
  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Work at heights greater than or equal to 4 ft off the ground. Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.  (This typically accommodates individuals who weigh 285 or less)

  • Troubleshooting: The ability to systematically identify, analyze, and resolve electrical and mechanical issues to restore equipment functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Electrical Principles: Electrical Diagnostics and repairs refers to checking electrical systems and equipment and repair them if necessary.
  • Detail-Oriented: A strong focus on accuracy and precision when performing tests, documenting results, and following safety and compliance standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Proficiency in performing scheduled, predictive, and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of electrical systems and components.
  • Communication: The capability to clearly convey technical information, collaborate with team members, and provide updates or recommendations to stakeholders.
