Electrical Integration Technician Intern

US-AL-Huntsville Part time

Position Description:

The position requires expertise in assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and some limited design skill that would be relevant in supporting distributed computing and simulation laboratories, integration tasks and development activities. The position will require personnel certification in operations including Electrostatic Discharge, Cabling Operator, and Crimping Operator. This position will support the buildup, configuration, and troubleshooting of Emulator and software development facility Hardware in the loop labs.

Responsibilities:

  • Support systems integration functions

  • Support software/hardware integration troubleshooting and bug-fix activities

  • Enter or update documentation into appropriate control system

  • Troubleshoot simulation anomalies

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance goals

  • Provide weekly written and oral status reports in a meeting setting

These activities will be on-going as the launch vehicle architecture matures and the SLS program completes program phases, reviews and schedule milestones.

Qualifications:

Typically, educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent.

Must be able to provide own transportation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Electronic hardware assembly and test.

  • Bus interfaces such as MIL-STD 1553B, RS422, RS485, Compact PCI, PCI Express, Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), Discretes, Analog-Digital, Digital-Analog, etc. in support of launch vehicle avionics HWIL systems integration and test.

  • Self-motivated, team player

  • Cable routing and cable testing

  • computer rack development, buildup, installation and troubleshooting.

  • Cable Fabrication

  • Strong Attention to Detail

  • Strong Organizational Skills

Essential Functions Work Environment

Office and shop environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). May require limited travel.

Physical Requirements

Requires lifting of sometimes heavy (up to 40 pounds per person) computer systems and associated hardware when building up or maintaining systems (10%). Requires climbing a ladder or operating a vertical lift (up to 15 feet) to work on the avionics lab structure (25%). Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (20%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
