Job Summary:
This position has a major impact on process manufacturing reliability through input as a technical resource. It will be necessary for the Electrical Engineer to develop internal and external contacts to facilitate achieving the company’s reliability targets. This position requires an ability to carry out safety assignments, plant assignments and assist plant supervision in where required.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Working under the direction of the Chief Projects Engineer, the Electrical Engineer provides technical support to improve and troubleshoot the plant electrical and electronic systems in the areas of power distribution and process instrumentation. The incumbent will be responsible for developing projects from the point of inception through AFE development to the point of installation/commissioning. The incumbent is jointly responsible with the Construction group for the successful completion and implementation of capital projects and support general electrical/instrumentation plant improvement scope.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Ability/Problem Solving
- Lead the planning, budgeting, and execution of multidisciplinary projects, including the acquisition, replacement, and modification of electrical and instrumentation assets through the Management of Change (MOC) system.
- Provide specialized technical support for Engineering and Maintenance, overseeing equipment design reviews, inspections, and condition monitoring for both power and control systems.
- Develop engineered designs and technical drafting for plant-wide replacements and modifications, ensuring seamless integration between electrical infrastructure and process instrumentation.
- Support the troubleshooting and commissioning of process electronic instrumentation, including advanced Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and PLC architectures.
- Support the installation and maintenance of medium-to-high voltage power distribution (up to 13.8 KV) and large-scale electric motor drives (up to 2000 HP).
- Simultaneously, drive multiple improvement projects from conceptual design to final completion, balancing power distribution needs with instrument precision.
- Support Maintenance in lifecycle review of plant electrical and electronic assets to ensure maximum reliability and identify critical opportunities for Electrical and Instrumentation system upgrades.
- Conduct and interpret comprehensive electrical system studies, including Arc Flash Analysis, Short Circuit Studies, and Protective Device Coordination etc., to enhance personnel safety and equipment protection.
- Perform gap assessment reviews of company Standards to ensure site requirements are met, identify and/or complete action items to ensure compliance.
- Review maintenance and project packages to ensure strict adherence to engineering standards, safety codes, and technical specifications.
- Good understanding of regional codes (CEC) and international standards (NFPA 70, IEC) to ensure safety, reliability and regulatory compliance.
Communication, Co-ordination & Reporting
- Responsible to work effectively with all parties in the Engineering department. It is required to maintain open lines of communication with all site stakeholders including the CF Construction team, during all stages of a project to ensure successful execution assigned projects.
- Ensures plant and equipment information is correct identifying updates where required.
- Responsible to maintain a continuing liaison with all Plant personnel who share responsibility for the function of these areas where there is engineering involvement.
- Prepares regular project and monthly reports presenting the results of studies, proposals and the status of work where required.
- Responsible to either assist or lead efforts to resolve conflicts that may occur on assigned projects. Will seek to meet all stakeholder requirements on projects while being able to keep projects on track.
- Strong written and verbal skills are essential in this position.
Self/Staff Development
- Will generally be responsible for the activities associated with several assignments and studies of varying scope and priority. Must manage the activities of each to insure orderly and timely progress occurs on all jobs.
- The Electrical engineer, in the execution of assigned projects, will work closely with vendors, consultants and stakeholders both inside and outside the company to maintain effective project execution.
- Support the initiatives of Continuous Improvement through teamwork and the application of Quality Planning and Improvement Principles to the routine performance of duties.
Productivity & Adaptability
- Will generally be responsible for the activities associated with several assignments and studies of varying scope and priority. Must manage the activities of each to insure orderly and timely progress occurs on all jobs.
- Understand and comply with corporate processes and procedures to support internal controls efforts. Identify and brings deficiencies to the attention of department manager.
- Support the initiatives of Continuous Improvement through teamwork and the application of Quality Planning and Improvement Principles when performing all duties.
- Can be called on at times to be designated a site contact for outside contractors working on our plant site. Would then be expected to follow all requirements as specified in CF’s Contractor Management Program.
- The incumbent will be required to travel within North America periodically as required for assigned projects.
- Will be expected to provide assistance in plant outages and / or turnarounds when requested by the Chief Project Engineer or the Engineering Manager. This may include working in a supervisory role during non‑standard working hour.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
BSc. in Electrical Engineering preferably with a minimum 5 years’ experience in a petro-chemical processing or fertilizer manufacturing plant environment. Related engineering degree and experience from another environment will be considered. The candidate must be a registered P. Eng with APEGA or another Canadian province in good standing to transfer to Alberta. A proven history of leading multidisciplinary electrical and instrumentation projects is preferred. Holding a PMP is considered an asset.
