What you’ll contribute to

An exciting opportunity has become available for a dynamic Electrical Development Engineer to join our Product Planning & Development Division in a 12-month max term role.

The Product Planning & Development (PPD) Division is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of all product initiatives to ensure new offerings are designed and optimized to meet future customer needs.

The Electrical Development Engineer is responsible for leading the development of Genuine Accessories and Conversions. This includes scoping, collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers, evaluating and approving products to meet Toyota standards, and managing cost and timelines to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

This role is primarily onsite at Altona North, with some flexibility in work arrangements.

How you’ll make an impact  

  • Project Management: Develop project schedules based on key milestones, monitor progress, and implement corrective actions to maintain timelines. Collaborate proactively with stakeholders to achieve design approval targets.

  • Part Development: Lead part development by conducting feasibility and benchmarking studies, defining technical requirements, preparing project scope for supplier selection, collaborating on DFMEA and boundary diagrams, reviewing designs to ensure compliance, and creating approval documentation for tooling and final sign-off.

  • Part Evaluation: Manage part evaluation by attending fitment trials, coordinating assessments with the Evaluation team and suppliers, preparing detailed reports, and identifying appropriate countermeasures as needed.

  • Cost Management: Support cost estimation during project scoping, review supplier quotations with Procurement, and actively manage project costs to meet agreed targets.

  • Supplier Management: Participate in regular project status meetings and provides support as needed, while proactively communicating vehicle environment CAD data and requirements to facilitate development and evaluation activities.

  • Field Problem Resolution: Resolve field issues by quickly identifying root causes, implementing countermeasures, and completing reflection activities to prevent recurrence.

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent

  • Eligibility for National Engineers Registration (NER preferred) or willing to obtain

  • Proven experience in engineering development and project management

  • Strong knowledge of automotive electrical systems, wiring, and CAN BUS (essential)

  • Hands-on workshop experience and proficiency with CAD tools (CATIA ideal)

  • Skilled in problem-solving, attention to detail, leadership, and stakeholder management
