Performs diagnostic services as required in examinations, care and treatment of hospital patients. Performs routine diagnostic testing in cardiac exams, EKG's, holter monitoring and stress testing procedures as ordered by the medical staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School graduate or equivalent.

1. Three (3) months EKG testing procedures, and equipment such as holter scanner monitor and treadmills.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Prepares patients for non-invasive procedures, EKG's, holter monitoring and stress tests; explains procedures prior to testing and answers patient's questions concerning the exams.

2. Administers electrocardiogram testing and procedures on patients as assigned in the EKG Department, Hospital Departments, nursing levels and emergency code situations. 

3. Performs holter monitor scanning and identifies cardiac arrhythmias. 

4. Prepares patients for stress testing and assists physician following proper protocol. 

5. Places electrodes in correct positions for all cardiac testing procedures. 

6. Schedules tests and prepares patient's files including all pertinent information.

7. Maintains work area in a clean orderly condition to prevent the spread of infection or disease to patients, visitors and personnel and follows OSHA standards.

8. Provides appropriate patient care, maintains current CPR status, attends two mock codes per year.

9. Prepares patient's files for dictation, photocopies files and test, and any other office procedures.

10. Reports any equipment malfunctions to the Director of the Department.

11. Instructs and performs competancy-based orientation with new technicians in proper cardiac testing methods and procedures.

12. Maintains continuing education on procedures and techniques in order to perform exams of high quality in all areas of cardiac testing.

13. Maintains accurate log books, prepares photocopies, maintains records of tests and files and sends test reports to patient's physician.

14. Performs other projects as assigned.

15. Utilizes the GE MUSE system to obtain EKG’s, assign EKG’s to Physician folders, cross-check EKG orders and communicate with departments regarding missing orders.

16. Coordinates with IT Specialist for issues with incomplete orders, discrepancies in assigning EKG’s, and charging.

17. Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and education appropriate to the age of the patients served. (Adolescence 13-17 years, Adult 18-79 years, Geriatric 80+ years) 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development.

  • Assesses information relative to patient's status and interprets this information to identify the age specific needs of each patient.

  • Maintains an understanding of the range of treatment necessary for each patient and provides appropriate care based on their age specific needs.

1. Must meet Department of Labor’s MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly)
2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 11-12  hour shift.
3. Able to lift 40 pounds from floor to waist.

3. Obtains work related continuing education on a yearly basis.  Utilizes that knowledge in the development and improvement of staff and treatments, promoting high standards of EKG Services.
