Your role at Baxter

The EHS Manager leads all aspects of the site’s Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) programs. This role is responsible for maintaining, developing and deploying site EHSS strategies, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state (including California requirements), and local regulations, and ensuring alignment with corporate and divisional Baxter EHSS objectives.

The leader will drive continuous improvement, influence at all organizational levels, and collaborate cross‑functionally to embed EHSS principles into operations, engineering, facilities, and new project planning. Strong critical thinking, regulatory knowledge, and communication skills are essential.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop, implement, and manage all Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) programs, policies, and compliance activities, ensuring alignment with federal, state (including California), and local regulations.
  • Execute and maintain elements of the EHSS Management System, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies; lead preparation for inspections, permitting, reporting, and correspondence.
  • Identify potential hazards through risk assessments, Gemba walks, inspections, and job hazard analyses; drive timely corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead or facilitate industrial hygiene risk assessments, monitoring, and exposure control programs.
  • Facilitate the Investigate all EHS-related events with operational groups—including injuries, near misses, and environmental incidents—conduct root cause analysis and ensure completion of corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain site EHS goals, targets, and key performance indicators to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead and improve the site audit and inspection programs, emphasizing compliance, program effectiveness, and employee engagement.
  • Prepare, manage, and maintain EHS permits, agency reports, corporate reporting, and documentation.
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs, including vendor oversight, disposal contracts, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, facilities, operations and project teams to ensure EHS considerations are integrated into new processes, modifications, and equipment changes.
  • Lead EHSS governance teams such as Emergency Response, Safety Committees, and other site EHS groups.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training for employees and contractors to ensure competency and regulatory compliance.
  • Champion employee wellness initiatives in collaboration with HR and promote active participation in related programs.
  • Support corporate and divisional EHS projects and ensure timely, complete execution of assigned initiatives.
  • Support and maintain the site business continuity plan and participate in emergency planning and drills.

What you'll bring

  • BS degree in Environmental Health, Safety or related field required
  • MS degree in Environmental or Safety Engineering, Technology or Management preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in Environmental, Health and Safety or Industrial Hygiene fields with specific concentration in EPA, OSHA and DOT regulations with a minimum of 2 -3 years supervisory experience.
  • Must hold a registered professional certification in the environmental or safety field (i.e. CHMM, CSP, or CIH)
  • Must be knowledgeable in EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Corporate Policies, operating and maintenance instructions, Regulations and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.       
  • Must have deep knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations with experience in executing California specific requirements Proven ability to develop and execute short and long-term strategic plans.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing plant setting
  • Must have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Process knowledge of related manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Ability to problem-solve and resolve technical difficulties. 
  • Must be able to influence at all levels and across functional lines.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to use enterprise software
  • Must be able to flex schedule to accommodate training programs and investigations on off-shifts
  • Participate in the site Senior Leadership Team

Physical Demands

  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $104,000 to $143,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
