Position Overview:

The EHSS (Environment, Health, Safety, and Security) Associate Engineer at Insulet Malaysia will play a pivotal role in supporting a diverse team, including employees at all levels, outsourced service providers, contractors, and visitors. This position is responsible for ensuring that all daily activities align with business objectives and comply with cGMP requirements, while providing comprehensive safety management, expert guidance, monitoring, and reporting to maintain a safe and compliant workplace. Ensure compliance with all EHSS regulations and standards within Insulet Malaysia. Promote a proactive safety culture, manage EHSS programs, and safeguard people, property, and the environment while supporting smooth operations. Should be proactive, collaborative, and willing to train others, while remaining eager to acquire and share new knowledge. As the facility operates on a 24/7 basis, this position requires flexibility to work across shifts and ensure consistent adherence to EHSS standards throughout all operational periods.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with EHSS laws and regulations: Stay updated on local, state, and federal requirements, including the Occupational Safety & Health Act 1994, DOE, BOMBA, and other relevant regulations.

  • Develop and maintain EHSS management systems: Establish, implement, and continuously improve policies, procedures, and SOPs to meet legal and corporate standards.

  • Regular review and updates: Periodically review safety policies to ensure alignment with changing regulations and best practices.

  • Conduct workplace inspections: Perform scheduled and random inspections across all IMY areas to identify hazards, unsafe practices, and compliance gaps.

  • Verify work permits: Ensure all Permit-to-Work documents are properly completed before major repair or maintenance activities begin.

  • Monitor PPE compliance: Check that employees and contractors use appropriate PPE for their tasks.

  • Inspect safety equipment: Weekly checks on fire extinguishers, alarms, first aid kits, and smoke detectors to confirm functionality and compliance.

  • CCTV surveillance: Oversee security camera monitoring and report any non-compliance or suspicious activities to EHSS Officer.

  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of permits, inspection reports, and compliance records for audit readiness.

  • Liaise with the EHSS Officer to align daily activities with long-term safety objectives and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in daily production meetings to provide EHSS input and address potential safety concerns proactively.

  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and communicate relevant updates to operational teams.

  • Conduct risk assessments for ongoing operations and recommend preventive measures to mitigate hazards.

  • Verify that all critical control points in the facility meet EHSS standards through systematic checks.

  • Analyze safety data: Review incident reports and inspection findings to identify trends and root causes.

  • Recommend corrective actions: Suggest process changes, engineering controls, or administrative measures to reduce risks.

  • Implement improvement plans: Drive initiatives to enhance environmental health and safety performance across departments.

  • Assist during emergencies: Act promptly to minimize operational disruptions, property damage, and environmental impact during incidents.

  • Investigate incidents: Document all workplace accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and occupational illnesses.

  • Maintain accurate records: Prepare reports and statistics for DOSH and other authorities for compliance and trend analysis.

  • Conduct safety training: Lead in-house programs to improve employee awareness and competency in EHSS practices.

  • Safety inductions/briefings: Provide orientation sessions for new employees and contractors to ensure understanding of site-specific safety requirements.

  • Promote safety culture: Organize campaigns, toolbox talks, and awareness activities to reinforce safe behaviours.

  • Support audits and inspections: Assist during internal audits and regulatory inspections by DOSH, DOE, BOMBA, SPKA, and KPDNKK.

  • Conduct HIRARC and safety meetings: Perform Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control exercises and lead safety committee meetings.

  • Internal safety audits: Regularly audit processes and systems to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Collaborate with security team: Ensure smooth daily operations and address security-related concerns.

  • Flexibility: Remain prepared to undertake additional tasks as assigned by superiors to support EHSS objectives.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a related discipline (or equivalent certification).

  • Attending SHO courses or Occupational Safety & Health Coordinator training is a strong advantage.

  • 3–4 years of hands-on experience in the Safety & Health field, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Knowledge in ISO 14001, ISO 45001 standards, and HIRARC methodology.

  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia; multi-language fluency is an added advantage.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of EHSS regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Ability to lead safety programs and conduct effective training.

  • Analytical skills for hazard identification and risk control.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration across departments.

  • Previous experience working in a clean room environment is an advantage.

  • strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily work plans and unplanned issues on EHSS matters and the culture of the production environment.

  • Multi-language fluency preferred (English, Malay).

     

Physical Requirements:          

  • Ability to work across all shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support EHSS or business objectives.

      

  • Comfortable performing regular site walk-throughs and inspections in manufacturing and outdoor environments.

        

  • Ability to respond promptly to emergencies, which may involve physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs, or handling safety equipment.

        

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (e.g., safety shoes, helmet, gloves) for extended periods during inspections.
